Could not be further from the truth. Temple is loaded for the next several years. Coach Spradlin in pushing 60 and the offers him a role as an admin that will pay probably close to what he is making coaching.

I've just seen it happen when a coach is successful and sees what's coming down the road, decides to spend their last few years having less stress, or chance of being fired.

You're absolutely right. That is usually the case. I'm a Belton guy but I've known Spradlin for a long time. Great guy who is just ready to have a normal life and more time with his family.

Going to be interesting to see who they go after as a replacement

He applied at Belton, and he was a finalist for the Temple job when they hired Spradlin.

Pretty short timeline on this so I suppose we'll all see who it is pretty quickly.

Schedules haven't come out yet but anticipated enrollment shows Temple in class 5A and Belton in class 6A so it would have to be a mutually agreed upon non-district game.

That game should be one of those where if it isn't scheduled then someone gets fired. It should be mandatory, kind of like Cameron vs. Rockdale, Rogers vs. Academy, Groesbeck vs. Mart, Waco vs. University, etc.

My guess is that Shipley and Spradlin agreed to play the game in 2016. Don't know if it's locked in or not, or if the new Temple Coach can affect it...

Also, yes, enrollment has been confirmed and turned in. Temple will remain 5A, and Belton 6A

Schedules are not made until district realignment comes out.

They aren't published, but by this time of year in this day and age the coaches usually have their schedules made out. That's why the UIL does the preliminary release to let schools know what classification they will be in. To assist with preparing tear schedules for the upcoming season.

They might have a verbal agreement, but coaches have zero knowledge of their district will be a 6,7, or 8 team district. I've been in the room and have had to scramble to fill non-district games.

But yes, a verbal agreement between non-district opponents. Temple-Belton would be one of those that was probably agreed to in principal, or not, a year and a half ago, which of course would not be binding on the new Temple HC. Probably a conversation in 2014 that went something like

Shipley: Hey coach, why ain't we playing this year?

Spradlin; you tell me

Shipley: Well crap, keep 2016 open

Spradlin: you got it

Those coaches have tentative district games penciled in MONTHS ahead of time. A McQueen, Rhoades, Shipley, Spradlin, Welch doesn't wait until February to start making phone calls

While nobody knows how big a district will be, most around here are probably at least comfortable in assuming they will have at least 2 non-district games, and usually more.

Then if they have to scramble, then they just do

Obviously they can't execute a contract as of yet, but they can have a verbal agreement set of one of the first three weeks. This would almost 100% guarantee the game takes place as there are very few districts in the state with more than 8 teams in them.

Can't find it right now but I thought I saw it was only going to be posted until this Friday (January 29) I'm sure they have a pretty quick timeline with realignment looming as well as Spring Football to prepare for.
