690 hp. 3350 lb. payload 14k lb towing capacity, and an estimated base price of $50k?

What am I missing here? Based on how much gas and diesel trucks are priced, why would you NOT buy one?

Almost seems like a no brainer, and just for a disclaimer, I am not some 'Tesla guy'. Just seems like the best deal out there on a nice truck.

Also, "ugly as hell" is definitely a reason not to buy one.

Real world range with a load? Recharge stations that are trailer friendly? Ugly as ****? This is just the tip of the iceberg of why not.

Irons what the Range will be with a load.

As for the looks, if really is a form follows function look then I can respect that, with a structural exoskeleton supposedly requiring the triangular shape for structural reasons. It seems skimping on paint is a cost measure. I'm not sure I like the extra strong glass on the side's though if you needed to break it in an emergency.

I definitely want to test drive the three motor. I bet it'll be a blast to rip around in with that torque!

I'm not a pick up truck guy in any way, but I'm having a hard time seeing how the Tesla is any uglier than the F-250 (in my opinion as ugly as it gets for a vehicle). The Tesla seems to be on the non-traditional ugly side while the pick ups now on the market are ugly with a more traditional look. At least Tesla didn't try to emulate the ugly from the more established companies.

This.

All the new big three trucks are swollen crap piles. Why does a half ton truck need be the size of all Nebraska?

I kinda dig the Cyber truck, but then again I daily a 1st gen Honda Insight so I already have a future car. It would be fun to put a Halo Warthog wrap on it though.

Painting stainless steel isn't easy. Would require roughing the surface up enough for bonding primer to adhere to it.

The exoskeleton/skin is the same 30 times folded stainless steel used for the Space X rockets.

Both buttress open for external tool box/storage use.

I guess that's why they make more than one flavor of ice cream. I think the current gen F250 is the best looking truck out there right now and will most likely be my next truck. This Tesla truck looks terrible, but I guess that's just part of being an electric vehicle, there is an unwritten rule that they all have to be ugly. You couldn't pay me to drive one, but if it's your thing, you are welcome to it

That is a huge windshield wiper.
I'm still trying to figure out how that will go fast enough to see in a heavy rain.

Honest question, why? I don't have a truck because of what it does 0-60..... It's also just not impressive to me, much easier to do with an EV.

If that's what I cared about I'd be in a Tesla or sports car.

And there's a lot of people in Teslas now so that buyer exists. And I'm sure a sizeable % have a bike or beach set up they'd rather put in a truck bed than the hatch of their Y.

This doesn't make the truck less ugly though and that still means something when we've got a lot choices these days.

With that windshield slope, the air flowing over the surface will do most of the work at highway speeds

I'm surprised that Tesla didn't go with Mercedes' old 'Eccentric Sweep' if they were going with a mono-blade

My MY was rear ended while stopped at about 60mph and my car barely budged, damaged for sure but made the other car looked terrible. I will say my Tsla is solid and I didn't have any injury. Got a decent Jolt but I don't think my MY moved much if at all, there was no skid marks.

Got a loaner Ford edge and the drive vs MY is pitiful. Visibility, seat comfort, tech, etc is not comparable. Price of Edge and MY are similar when accounting for the tax credit.

Once you drive a Tsla, nothing in their price range compares. I know some loves buttons, but once you figure out how to use a Tsla with voice commands, its a much better experience. In 5 dys, had to fill the tank twice/spent $80, and down 20 minutes/$60.

I bet many who gives a tesla a serious try will not go back to ICE. The Cyber truck will be the same IMO.

Also, if you make $375k/yr why not step it up to the S or X with a little better build quality?

Tesla MY starts at $55k. Ford edge starts at $37k, fully loaded $47k. And that's msrp, not sure on edge specifically, but generally ford is notorious for high msrps and heavy discounts. Call it a wash with the tax credit. Even though some wouldn't qualify for the tax credit.

I like teslas. I have no doubt it's way better than the edge. But the ability to pick the worst comparisons by Tesla owners never ceases to amaze me. I know you didn't choose the loaner as a direct comparison. But your whole argument of similar price is pretty moot. Best case, MY is 17% higher.

I think the MY starts under $48k before the $7,500 tax credit so just over $40k.

The most popular MY is the LR trim and ends up at 43K after credits. The most popular Edge trim is 40k.

One year of gas savings and they are essentially the same cost to own after the 1st yr so from purely price play, they are pretty comparable. But the handling, tech makes the Edge feel like a car my parents drove in 1990.

I merged into a lane with the edge and had to see if it had enough torque to merge in front or behind the other car. In the MY, I just blow by almost any car in a sec with much safer merging.

The regen brakes is very underrated. When you let go of a gas peddle, it take 1/4 secs to push the breaks and slow down. With the MY, its instant braking which makes a world of difference. I just feel so much more in control with the MY driving through busy traffic.

The insistence of everyone in the ev world to compare prices acting like you get a free $7500 off irks me.

If EVs were as great as you say, it wouldn't be necessary to take a tax discount on them.

The edge sucks. It's not a great car. But even it starts looking pretty good near $30k if you take $7500 off…..

And this doesn't even start to talk about not everyone qualifying or probably understanding how it works. I'd love to see stats on the percentage of people who actually end up getting the full credit. Maybe it's 100% and I'm wrong, wouldn't be the first time on this thread.

Nobody on Texags qualifies for that credit as we are all millionaires, right?

I know you're being sarcastic but there's more to it than that, no? How many people making under the thresholds actually owe $7500 in taxes?

Put a ceramic coating on the glass. At that angle, very little speed will be needed to keep the glass clear.

I have coated my glass with ceramic, I don't use the wipers often, and never when above 35-40 MPH in my F150.
