Car is still under warranty. Have an appointment in the morning at Allen Honda. Any idea what the problem probably is? Would like to know what Im talking about if they try to say it's not Honda's responsibility.

The other side looks the same but not as bad.

I'm not sure what is adjustable on an Odyssey. I would guess that it has too much negative camber, top of the tire leans twords the vehicle. The wear on the outside looks a little funny as well, not sure what that is.

Alignments are cheap. Could been a curb hit, pothole, etc. Get new tires and alignment.

+1

Dealing with something very similar right now on my daughter's car. Need new tires and a wheel alignment.

With those steel belts showing you're living on borrowed time before you find yourself on the side of the road (which is what happened to me on Sunday night).

How many miles? Ever had a tire rotation or alignment? I rotate every oil change and have the "lifetime alignment" at Firestone. Really extends tire life

32,000 miles. Yes on rotation. No on alignment.

I don't really see how alignment could cause both the inside and outside to be chewed up?

So if Honda says there's nothing wrong with it. Just needs alignment, do I have them do it or go somewhere else?

Will be getting tires today but don't want the same thing to happen to them.

Are the lug nuts tight? Check the upper and lower ball joints for play.

This. Is it Awd?
Lift each side and see if there is any play shaking tires L to R and Up/ down.
Our gx 460 is Awd and needs an allignment every 25k miles.

And oem tires often suck. Replace with Michelin.

Tire pressure?

Quote:

Wear on the sides

Wear on the sides of the tires can be an indication of under-inflation. Under-inflation causes the sides of the tires to bear the majority of the vehicle's weight. Consistently driving on under-inflated tires can cause this type of tire wear pattern over time. Ensuring your tire pressure is at the right level can help you to avoid this type of wear.

24 years of owning Odysseys, it happened to me once.

I gallantly changed the struts but didn't do an alignment. Few hundred miles and I popped a tire.

They said they checked everything and couldn't find any issues besides alignment. So doing alignment.

Pressure was at 35 cold on a max 44 tire. Maybe low so going to up that to 40.

They're going to match the out the door price from discount on tires. Going to let them do everything so they can own it if it comes right back.

It's messed up on the camber, confirmed by the alignment picture you provided.

Obviously something rotten in Denmark.
justnobody79

camber is off, but also did you have the tires patched at any point?
CS78
How long do you want to ignore this user?
No patches.

What would cause the camber to be that far off on a relatively new car?

Pretty regular. Id call her driving slightly conservative.

She's hit multiple curbs at relatively high speed on the right side of the car.

Ask me how I know...

I suppose its possible that it came from the factory like that or was damaged in transport, but more likely the camber gets messed up hitting curbs, potholes, etc

Had a friend who's wife's AWD MDX or Lexus (forget which - but luxury SUV cross over not offroad in Southlake) was constantly having tire, wheel and alignment issues. He thought the same about her driving. Then one day he was riding with her when she up and did a U-turn over a curbed median at a "bouncy" rate of speed. He was stunned and asked WTF! Came to find out this was a typical practice for her because "Well, it is a 4WD vehicle and it's made for that kind of stuff. Right?"

hang on there...

I believe recommended tire pressure on 2023 Honda Oddy is 32 psi. Look at the door panel sticker on the driver side. Not what the tire says....
Drewmeister

Exactly -- 44 psi is just 300 kPa, a nice round number (in metric anyway) commonly used as the maximum rated pressure on a lot of passenger tires. 35 psi is also common.

Go by the door sticker, not the tire.

Over pressurizing isn't going to cause the inside edge wear like this, it would cause over wear down the extreme center of the tire.

The lower control arm on the odyssey has a bushing that is prone to failure because for some reason they designed it operate in the wrong direction. The bushing is vertical while the rotation is along the spine of the car.

Lower left bushing.

Our Odyssey chewed up tires. Not like you're showing- that's a separate issue as noted above - but it still wore down tires quickly. It is a heavy vehicle. Switching to truck tires seemed to help.

How many miles?

What rotation interval?

What do the other tires look like?

Also oem tires are trash.

Some great responses. No doubt she has hit some curbs. But she did that in previous vehicles without this issue. Probably more so then, before I started getting on her about it. I told her the general consensus of the problem being a woman driver, and she pretty much said, we can all piss of.

Thanks a bunch. Do you know if this is a bushing I can inspect myself with everything still assembled?

Yes. If you can get under it, it should be easy to see.
Failure will show cracking in the rubber.

Well... Maybe she can then fix it herself.

There is nothing wrong with the design of this control arm. That is the typical design for a macpherson strut suspension. The vertically oriented bushing/attachment is reacting the lateral loading. The bushing may wear faster than the others, but it is not a design flaw, it is a compromise like every other design decision.
