For decades and no matter the vehicle, have always been plagued with slow leaks from this step child tire that may take a month or two before either an idiot light goes off (always at emergency moments) or caught on calendar routines or noticeable on a radial (good luck).

The refill is always 4-10psi from the others IF they even need any more air.

Confessions
The longer vehicles, 2001 F150 & 2012 Pilot from my 1999 Z24 (EDC) may rarely but might catch a curb.
Parking SOP is gravel, construction zones not common, sun.moon.stars not a factor where parked.

The Z24 also suffered once upon a time but when I got all wheels rotated, no more problem.

It doesn't matter if the tires are new or not ... so wheels suspect? I dont' think so except for the Z .... maybe and then WHY solved?

How much did you have to drink? Having trouble interpreting this.

My interpretation:

Our friend has one tire on his vehicle that is a real pain and always tends to be lower than the rest by a small amount of 4-10psi. It may be weeks or months before it becomes low enough for the OP to be made aware of a low pressure condition on said tire.

He typically parks on gravel and aside from one off curb checks and infrequent situations, he doesn't mistreat his tires.

His Z24 had a similar problem once but he rotated tires and the problem went away.

The problem persists with both old and new tires leading him to wonder if the wheel itself is the culprit.

My opinion:

If you are SURE there are no punctures form nails, staples, or thorns, then I'd start looking at the valve stem. I've had mine leak from the valve core AND from the stem where it seals in the wheel itself. Either or both can be leaky.

Spray some soapy water on and around your valve stem. This is where my tires always leak if they are otherwise without a puncture.

Vaughn's insane ramblings are usually reserved for the real estate and home improvement boards. Many of us are convinced it's a bot.

I am going to need visual proof that, in 2024, you own a 1999 Cavalier Z24 before giving any advice.

I enjoy reading his posts on the Home Improvement board. Have to read a few times to decipher but I've come to the conclusion that he usually knows what he's talking about and is helpful

Thanks, Jason good theory - see below, even though WHY rear passenger tire s always the LOW one remains a mystery.

My reward for filling all tires to proper PSI was to leave today in the F150 "dragging tail" = rear passenger tire FLAT ....
after a can of fix-a-flat (NO), then home compressor, it seems to hold rest of day on errands = supports your valve theory in spades

So solution seems to be replace or oil at least all rear pass tire valves ,,,, sigh

I will have to take your word for it. I read it sober last night, a bit inebriated tonight, and still think I could have articulated that in 2-3 sentences.

How much are these cars sitting?

I have a few cars that sit a lot, and the tires will lose PSI. It's pretty normal IME even with good valve stems and no issues with the bead.

70k miles on a 25yr old car makes me think it sits a lot. I have a 96 Ford Contour with 50k miles that sits and the tires are always flat. It's almost always the rears that have issues.

The ones with the most issues are running cheap Chinese tires. The cars with Michelins don't have a problem. The cars I have with Continentals tend to flat spot after sitting for a few days/weeks.

Siliconed rear passenger valves, no real movement in PSI

Note to self - never ever hit curb with that wheel (every blue moon)
+ always clean valves on PSI-ck day

After thought:
it's the hind teat that is the dirtiest ..... esp. on the shoulder side of any road

Many thanks, All

UPDATES Rear Passenger tires: slow leaks
Solutions
2001 F150 ... WD-40 in valve stem, always blow out cap & stem before check/fill air
1999 Z24 ... metal old wheel bead was flaking = LEAK ... to be polished for new tires? BUT instead elected NEW METAL WHEELS in stock, minimal waiting Discount Tire Aggieland
2012 Pilot .... avoid all Houston road construction that cares nothing about littering nails everywhere and for months on end .... the front tire picks up a nail lying flat, then throws it up for rear tire to be impailed

Thank You All

I agree with this theory in spades, as well as the Updates above might not note as nuances.
That said, when low-IQ driving the "fun family bus" VW Vanagon (it was anything but that), the Michelins were driving pleasure BUT blew out on lakeside rough roads on the way to "Grandmas house" holiday ... beware.

Vanagons need superior sidewall wind support, perhaps beyond the H-rated tires we tried. Cooper was a good & underrated local in-stock option but Tire Rack in this new era has so many other solutions tp ship to a local Discount Tire.

Thank You for your contribution!

Won't fix your problem directly….but my red neck solution is I usually air my tires from 5-10 more PSI (say 38-45) for normal use, unless am already at max for towing.

'They' say most tires are under inflated and wear more in middle on average. Though I try to check regularly-ish, I figure worst case they get low if I haven't checked them in awhile. And maybe eek out slight improvement in MPG, who knows.
