Driven F-150s all my life. Our growing family is making us consider selling the truck and getting something with a third row. Not super interested in another Ford as the last couple have had so many issues. Thinking of changing it up and looking at GM products.

With that being said, what are the known issues of that generation Tahoe? Anything I need to look out for or ask about?

And no, we're not getting a minivan.

Thanks all, and Merry Christmas!

had 3/4 on my 2016 LTZ. Thankfully not the lifter issue. Learned my lesson and bought a GMC the next go around.

We have a 2015 Yukon, 5.3 motor with 137,000-ish miles. Bought it in 2016 with 24k miles. Came from a rental fleet.

So far we have experienced:
1. Rear brake light failure - now a recall for it, probably corrected by 2018
2. A/C condensor and radiator failure (same time)
3. 2 failed coils (maintenance item)
4. failed air shocks and compressor (maintenance but cheaper than the electromagical ones)
5. Rear pinion seal.
6. thermostat failure - stuck open so it ran cool and electric fans stayed on

changed oil every 5k miles religiously with good oil and filters. Did transmission fluid and filter every 50k. Did brakes once and a couple batteries along the way. I performed all maintenance and repairs except the condensor/radiator, the transmission maintenance, and the second brake light which had been recalled by the time it failed.

You left off paint, rear differential and vacuum pump issues.

Or 3rd Gen Lexus LX 570.

It will end up saving money over a used Tahoe/Yukon

This. After 04 and 10 Tahoes, went with Lexus in 16 and 23. No more BS. No more service department problems.
And she gets a free loaner with scheduled routine service.

I can see needing a truck based large SUV to pull a trailer/boat and AWD/4WD for super active outdoors family.

Other than that, minivan is the most superior people hauler imo.

Did they ever fix the plastic heater hose fittings? 2 quick connects at the firewall and the y fitting by the water pump that get brittle, crack and pump out all your coolant. (Been meaning to replace those with metal)

Yep, forgot about that…and the broke exhaust manifold studs

We have a 2015 Yukon XL (bought new) with 110k miles on it now. Only issues so far have been:
- The well documented cracked AC condenser coil (replaced under warranty)
- One of the LED brake lights went out (replaced myself out of pocket but looks like I need to investigate requesting reimbursement if there's a recall now)
- Drivers side blind spot detection has gone haywire and alerts when there's nothing there
- Annoying chirp at idle that seems to be coming from underneath somewhere, various GM truck forums suggest it's an exhaust flapper valve or a heat shield rubbing but I've been too lazy to crawl under and investigate

Sucks that all manufacturers are using the plastic heater hose fittings. At this point I just consider a maintenance item at 100K miles for 5 years.
