This is in a 97 Chevy 3500. Cab fire and engine is burnt up but looks to be a 454 or an 8.1(doubtful). This should be a 4L80E, but is not. Any ideas?

She might be a little too far gone, even for me. Going to grab the transmission, bc why not? Has some good dually bed fenders, but not sure if I want to jack with it

Correct, I was assuming a swap. Somebody sunk some money into this thing before it went full Ram on them.

If it is a modern 8.1, run away.

It is a cool, powerful engine. It is also NOT a full vortec, its a gas hog, and the bottom end is not strong enough to handle boost.

Find a 6.0 and enjoy life without stopping for gas every hour

NV4500. Have one in my 83 C10 shorty. It was first mated to a 454 but I replaced it with a 305. Lie someone else said the 454 is a gas hog
