The emissions is certainly one thing but as stated in the article, the real fear is cutting into sales of F-150s.

Why Ford is producing that Maverick abomination, I have no idea but, I'm sure that truck probably cost them approximately zero lost F-150 sales.

Even if it cuts into the F150 sales, I am quite certain it would still be very profitable for Ford here. What does it matter if you sell 1 million F150's or 800K F150's and 200K Ranger HD's. As many have stated it will probably cost more than most of the F150 trims. Some would argue why not just get the larger truck? Ranger HD will probably get 30+ MPG.
To me this seems like a marketing blunder. Ford should do some self reflection and realize what people actually want rather than push and invest in stupid vehicles like the Lightening, Mach E, and Mavericks in the states.

I'm a fan of mid sized trucks. If the could get to routinely towing 8500# with a 1700+ payload I'd gladly drive on over a full size truck.

Sounds like this is exactly what I would want.

Ford sold 131k Mavericks in '24 vs 46k Rangers. The Ranger Raptors sat almost endlessly on dealer lots. American buyers don't want to pay up for a midsize truck. For that segment they want cheap and fuel efficient. Maybe the Ranger HD will have decent efficiency, but how is it priced?

Edit: appears to be $75-90k AUD which is $45-55k USD. I don't understand what market segment that would appeal to here. I don't think there's a lot of overlap between people who want that payload capacity and people who want a small truck. Americans looking for a small truck want to be able to haul flats of flowers, some 2x4s, their kids stuff from their dorm, etc.
