Looking for opinions. I just had 4 new Michelin Defender LTX M/S2 tires installed on the wife's SUV. 3 of the tires were manufactured in 2025 (differing weeks). One of the tires is dated 2224 which means it was manufactured in May of 2024. Am I out of line taking it back and asking for a new tire that is manufactured within at least some time in 2025? I just feel like they put a tire on that's been in the shelf for almost a year already and may not wear the same as the other 3. Am I overly concerned?

They say tires last 7 years. So assume you have 6 left. Assume 60 thousand mile tires, or 10,000 a year. Most people drive at least 12, I think you're good to let it go

Besides, a year on a rack out of the sunlight is going to have almost no effect on the longevity. It's the sun that kills tires

Thanks for the input. The vehicle is garage kept and will see no more than 10k miles a year and has a 70k warranty. Granted I'm sure it will dry rot before we ever see the mileage. I guess I'm wondering is it common practice to have a set of tires put on with such differing dates? I would think Discount would have enough volume to always have newer stock on hand. I'm in DFW so it's not like it's small town.

It probably depends on the tire size, make and model and how much volume they do in those.

Just like buying your favorite draft beer when you're out of town and then you find out it's stale because nobody there drinks it.

I had to buy some tires last summer and it was funny to me how many stores had between 1-3 of a particular tire size/make/model. I had to shop around to find a store with a full set in stock.

It's not going to be an issue until you get a nail in the tire and they won't patch it because it's more than 5 years old. Then you will have the option to replace one tire with new, or preemptively replace all 4 tires if you're not the kind of person that likes to run 1 new and 3 old tires.

It was a set of Michelin Defender LTX M/S2 for the wife's GX460 265/60/18 so I'm my mind it's a fairly common tire size but maybe not.

I had Discount install old tires on me once. I checked before leaving the store and I was back the next week with them replacing them with fresh ones. They didn't tell me they were old when they offered them to me cheap and they didn't mind replacing them when I requested it.

Had to use certs on 3 of 4 truck tires. When #4 got a bubble they said it was too old for them to touch and we had to buy the new one.
