Looks like lowish mileage 21-22 can be had for less than 50 grand or so, so that's what I'm looking at. Is there anything I should know about these years or look for when shopping? I appreciate the input in advance.

Interesting. I am looking nationally for a good deal but I reckon I should go drive one from that era just to get a feel for it.

If that doesn't work, my Uber driver Muhammad picked me up in an X last week when I went to retrieve my ride from Fabian's. I've got his number if you want it. He seems like the kind of guy who would let you test drive it if you slipped him a $20.

That said, the X had a ton of acceleration, but the seats and cabin materials felt cheap/flimsy. IDK. I know you're having trouble with your Expy but I don't know if I could got from large SUV to an X.

Yea there's one 2023 that I saw that works for our dates but I'm not going to rent one older than what I would buy because that isn't going to give me much to work with imo.

ETA - I'm getting rid of the Expy no matter what. The X is about 50% off new for one that's just a couple years old with less than 30k miles and lots of warranty, plus the gas savings will be phenomenal.

I would think the poster is not saying you shouldn't get an electric car, but buyer beware when it comes to that particular one. And, FWIW, all used electric cars are highly depreciated. You have options.

for sure on the depreciation, but AFAIK tesla is the best with tech and self driving, and that interests me greatly, especially the FSD. you can find some with FSD already in the <$50k range.

Yea I noticed that but still seems very cheap. I thought those Lexus SUVs held their value. I didn't look at the window sticker but I figured that was an $80k plus vehicle. Just caught me off guard is all.

I think they can get close to 80 for a loaded top end model, but the cheapest are like 55 new

Just an FYI. If FSD is part of your interest the '21-'22 are likely to need a computer retrofit in order to get the most advanced updates and Tesla are not yet doing those. '23 would be the first year they put AI4 computers in. The AI3 computers are apparently much improved with the latest release, but don't have the full feature set. They're still developing for the AI3 computers, but they're different branches.

Yea we are taking that in to consideration but spoke with someone that told me Tesla will be replacing the computers in the cars with computer 3, but haven't looked in to the veracity of that claim.

Rental had FSD and it was incredible. Huge hit with the kids and summon was great last night after a big dinner out with the family. When the car pulled up and the falcon wing doors opened some dude stopped and rolled his windows down and told us it was the coolest thing he had ever seen.

Rental was a 22 so we were using the old computer.

The wife and kids absolutely loved it and when we picked our kids up in my truck today after dropping the Tesla off, a slowish song was playing and my kid was bummed about the Tesla being gone and said , this must be the music from a Tesla funeral.

Musk basically said as much with respect to replacing the computer, but based upon his statement he expects they'll have to replace the computer on vehicles that do a full purchase of FSD (not sure how that will hold up when they inevitably get sued).

Another minor consideration is that the '21 is generally going to have an Intel Atom processor while the '22 is going to have an AMD Ryzen processor. Intel computers are missing some of the feature updates, the Ryzen is the current computer hardware going into new cars.

I think 21 is out just because my kids would never forgive me if I bought one and it didn't have the TV in the back. The like to use it to screw with me.
