Can auto tint naturally darken?

Took my car in to get inspected (North Carolina) and the shop is telling me that my tint is too dark in all four windows to pass my safety inspection. Trouble is that I've owned the car since new and three of those windows are from the factory (had to replace one due to it getting broken by a thief).

Never had a problem passing safety inspection, including at this specific location. Is it a thing that my tint could darken on its own?

I'd say it's more likely their meter was out of calibration. I think if anything, tint gets lighter over time, not darker.

What Aston said, last 4 years same place always passed my trucks tint and then last year I failed. Took to a different place and it passed. Glad no more inspections in Texas.

Thanks, kind of what I was thinking. Guess I'll clean the windows and take it to another spot.

When my tint failed, it was because they changed the law. Make sure they didn't do that in NC.
