Buy a starter repair kit. If you can uninstall the starter then you definitely should be able to repair it. I did mine over 10 years ago with no issues. A lot cheaper as well.

They still sell those? When we were using large numbers of natural gas powered irrigation engines, we rebuilt starters and alternators all the time. Then they quit selling the rebuild parts and only selling the whole units
