Just bought a new to me used Sierra after my previous one got stolen. It was a great deal, but the previous owner put a matte black wrap on the flip down part of the tailgate (like the AT4x), and I hate it.

1) is it something that can easily be removed DIY, and if no
2) Any recommendations for a shop in Houston that can do it and apply new emblems?

1) yes and no. Depends on how it was installed and how long it's been on. Heat and steam helps with removal. If its been o for a long time, expect it to come off in small pieces and I'd also expect some paint damage.

You'll need some adhesive remover once the vinyl is off to remove the glue, and you'll likely need a full detail and polish after. I hope whoever installed it did a good job and didn't cut the paint while trimming on body. That's very easy to do.

Hopefully the paint under that section is still in good shape. You can buy 3m mounting tape on Amazon and reuse your existing badges

Thanks for the input.

It was installed about 6 months ago, so I may be good there. As far as the letters, he painted the chrome trim on them a matte black also, which I hate as it's mismatched with the other badges, so likely getting new letters.

This truck has so much black on it I actually like the little bit of chrome around the gmc, the AT4 badges are already all gloss black.

I'd give it a try since it's on the tailgate. Pick up the $15 heat gun at harbor freight if you don't have one.

Depending on how it was wrapped, you might need to pull some of the tailgate trim. It's possible they wrapped under vs tucking in. Start on a corner and pull down at an angle while adding heat to the area you're trying to pull off. I'd also make a tape template of the badges before pulling them off. That way you know where they go when you reinstall.

Goo gone/adhesive remover and plastic razor blades will help you clean everything up. If the paint looks dull when done, something like 3D Speed polish and a yellow pad should clear it up easily. If you're going to HF, I think they still sell Meguiars 205 in store which should work fine too to polish it out. 3D speed is available on Amazon and probably a little less expensive.

There is an expensive product for removing wrap. I think it's called Vinyl off & it works well.
