Going to be commuting about 70 miles round trip to work, mainly highway. Considering a used Tesla because they seem to be cheap right now. Dont really care to spend over 60K on an suv. Thinking Telluride, XC90, Atlas?

Want the car to easily fit 2 car seats. (Model Y if went Tesla route?). Other vehicle is an F-150. Don't plan to do a ton of long distance road trips in next 5 years.

All that said, should I go for a Tesla as a commuter type car? Or should I just get an suv that will last 8 years or so and put some highway miles on it?

My understanding is the big unknown with the current matches of low cost used Teslas is battery longevity.

Maybe I'm mistaken, it that's been alleviated?

That commuting range is right in the Tesla wheelhouse. Model Y also has an 8 year 120k mile battery warranty.

Good battery warranty and the Y has a lot more interior space than you'd expect.

What are your thoughts on new vs used?

I think used is fine provided the mileage and years allow for a decent amount of warranty.

I bought a used 2023 Model 3 from Tesla. It had 14,000 miles and cost me just over $25k. My commute is 80 miles roundtrip. I save about $120-130/month in gas, counting my charging costs.

Appreciate the insight all. Certainly helps.

Now real question - Thiughtsnin the self driving? Worth the $99 a month?

Nah, the autopilot is just fine for commuting. You can try it for $99 though and see and just cancel if you don't like it.

Mrs MBL has the XC90 and it doesn't get great mileage. Great car, but not super great mileage and Volvo wants you to put in 93 octane.

If you get the 30 day free trial use it as much as possible so you can decide if you like it. It's pretty cool but it is weird to be sitting in the driver seat and not be driving. I've been in Waymos and sitting in the back seat and that is something different altogether. The car is pretty fun to drive so I like to drive it.
