Negotiating a deal on a new vehicle.

I placed a special order with the dealership down the street from me.

An email arrived today that strongly implies, without stating, that the vehicle arrived today (I doubt it on Memorial day, but...)

During my wait, about a week ago, they sent an email with a very attractive price that includes the VIN. This price was also reflected on the dealership website, which I printed. I also visited the dealership and confirmed the price. Unfortunately this was with another salesperson; the usual guy was "on vacation for two weeks"

Today, the dealership website reflects a significantly higher price (+$7,500, 16% more than the deal) and indicates both "Not in stock - In transit" as well as "In stock".

If they balk at honoring the phantom "Today's Price" deal for a vehicle they couldn't sell "Today", what is the best way, if any, to leverage my printout of their own website and the email?

1ags? Any advice?

What was the deal when you ordered it? I would expect them to honor the lower of the order price or when it's delivered. A random deal in between is just that.

Either way I hope you get the lowest possible.

How special was your order? Can you find the same vehicle doing an online search? If so, price it and you'll have an answer.

Every time I've ordered a vehicle it turned out to be a cluster. The last one took months longer than promised and I got screwed over on the extended warranty. Now I search, call, go look, then buy. And any smell of bs can simply walk out.

There was no deal when I ordered it.
Just MSRP and it reverts to dealer stock if I don't purchase it.

I was a bit surprised to see an advertisement offering a price on the VIN it was assigned. The kicker though, is I tend to use "plus tags" on my email addresses. This email came in with a plus tag linked to a different Ford I own. As far as Ford knows, we are two different people so this seems like a bait & switch attempt using a vehicle that isn't on-hand and also isn't really available.

See if they will give you that price...doesn't hurt to ask. I would expect to pay the price when ordered though.

Did you agree on a price before placing the order?

I doubt this works. Somewhere in the super fine possible unreadable fine print on the website they have a disclaimer about pricing and such.

When I was looking for my current car, I found one I liked, went and drove it but was waiting for it to come down a bit more. Watched the website and when it came down another 1500 called the guy I had worked with and offered that amount. Was told, "sorry we are not actually selling it at that price." I brought up the truth in advertising question and was told what I said above.

Needless to say, marked that dealer off my list. Found one the next week that I bought. Amusingly, the first dealer called back two weeks later and said they would now be happy to honor the advertised price from two weeks before, even though their site indicated it being even lower at that point

Nope. Nothing agreed to so far. I'm $0 in, and not committed to anything.

The only fine print I could find anywhere indicated "Pricing is applicable to residents in our market area. See dealer for details"

I'm only "outside of their market area" if it's less than one block.

Interesting. All the orders I've done we give them a build sheet and a deal sheet before we place the order. Different strokes I guess.

I have to admit that I have dealt with a couple over the years that were not scum. But they are hard to find and even then they have stacked the deck in their favor so it is hard to tell for sure.

Mine could have been BS. I didn't bother to go back and look at any fine print when the guy was willing to flat out say we reserve the right to advertise one thing and do another. Wasn't worth the time or effort in my case.

Go in to the dealer.
Act all excited.
Have them go through their spiel of "must needed/can't be deleted add ons'
Have them do all the paper work.
Ask them about Ford/Dealer financing
Get them to wash the truck.
Be all happy and smiles and saying what a great deal your getting and how excited you are
Sut down with the salesman when the paperwork is all ready
Ask his manager to sit in on the finalities
Pick up the pen to sign
Then say you changed your mind
Pitch the pen to the sales manager
Say "Yall have a nice day" and then "how does it feel?"
Get up and walk out.

I was surprised, too.

They had a red one that caught my eye (also a special order, similar setup, but diesel) so I popped in one day.

They were super ready to put in the order, but I didn't want to commit to anything before crunching numbers. They said nope. We order it to your specs, when it comes in if I change my mind they just sell it to someone else.

Also, the order was placed mid April. Apparently 2-door Super Duty pickups get built FAST. Expected date is June 2, but it appears it's already at their mother dealership in Tulsa. Just waiting for a ride west.

Doing life mostly.

Playing a lot of pool & repairing tables.

Been trying to find a little passive income in hobbies. Too much on cars is going the John Deere proprietary route.

Been avoiding new vehicles because they don't have sticks, but I don't think I can do that any more. The 5.4-3v has 152k on the original 2pc plugs, clutch, and fuel pump.

Just kinda wondered if you had any advice on the unsolicited price advertisements i got.

2 door 1-ton gasser?

You should be thankful they are giving you an opportunity to walk away from that

Seriously, I've had multiple 2 door 1-tons. If you haven't, message me

Had a 2002 Ford F350 2 door, bench seat, 4WD with 7.3 powerstroke and 6 speed manual trans. Roll up windows, manual seats. Great truck. Wish I still had it.

Your special order truck goes into their online portal so it shows up online as 'for sale'. But, it's still being built or in transit, and even if you are already buying it and signed, the price online is subject to their pricing system. Pull the window sticker from online. If it's a Ford and it's green, then it's special order and probably not actually for sale and it won't be subject to the internet price game. It frustrated me when I saw it.

Is this what you had happen?
