What are the typical per hour charges you guys are seeing out there? Houston area. And what is your opinion of being too damn high, look else where.

Seems like my usual place is creeping up.

$95-150 at a normal shop. Dealer rates $120-500 depending on brand.

Over $1 is too damn high for me, but $120-130 seems reasonable for something that isn't a gravy job like a fluid exchange.

I saw an article recently, that said most dealerships are paying competent mechanics $60 an hour.

My local Ford Dealer is charging $240/hr

My new job is at a trailer company. We charge $150 per hour for labor. Most auto shops are 120-150 here in the Denver area.

$189.99 listed on my last invoice from Doggett Ford in Houston. Granted, it was warranty work, so I didn't pay anything.

I think it is way too high. Service from dealerships are shtty at best. About to make a third trip to Doggett for a very simple issue. However, no one gives a sht anymore or have any pride in their work.

Seems to be a market for mobile mechanics here. Technicians with some experience, diagnostic and other tools, and little to no overhead other than insurance. Charge $80-100 an hour and, as a benefit, go to the consumer.

Not every repair, of course, but surely 80% of the work done on cars can be done on a mobile basis.

Yeah, I have seen a lot of them popping up online. Some seem to be able to do a lot. And can do even more if you drive to their home sometimes. Always a little riskier, but I'm sure some are legitimately good at what they do.

I had a guy come to me and completely re-wire (new harness) an old Trans Am for about $400 2 or 3 years ago. San Antonio area. Prob took him 1.5 -2 hrs on the car, plus travel time. I thought it was worth it. I would have had no idea where all those leads went to... (Mech Engr, not EE)

My go to mechanic is $170/hr. I need to find a mobile mechanic around Houston for the little things like it was suggested above. Or I need to shop around for better rates.

When my '06 Highlander rolled over 200k miles, I had to get the first few things done; timing chain, water pump, a gasket...

Where is the go to Houston mechanic for a 2008 f-150?

150k on the clock. A few lights up on the dash but truck doesn't show signs of running weird. Ultimately want to give the truck to my dad but want it to be in "good" order. Clear the lights on the dash and general health inspection.

Old Toyotas. New Toyota owners are waiting in line with several hundred thousand of their closest friends for engine replacements.

I hear ya. My 2021 4Runner just runs.

However, 2024 2 Door Bronco Sasquatch with 2.7L runs like a scalded ass ape compared to it. Guess that's the trade off.

Dang. Indy I used was $70/hr a few years ago. I guess it's probably $120ish now

You know what though: any world where you see GM or Ford offer that solution?
