This board was able to help me the last time I had issues with my Gator……which was several years ago.

Current issue: the fuel pump went out. At first I tried to save a few bucks and replaced it with a knock off I found online. It worked for a bit, but it started running rough, wouldn't reach full RPM with consistency, would backfire, etc. I figured it was due to not buying a JD part. I recently ordered a part from the dealership and installed it. Again, ran fine out of the gate but soon after, started having the same issues above.

Any ideas on cause and what I can try next? My next thought was maybe it has bad gas. I plan on siphoning the gas out when I have a chance and starting over with new gas. Beyond that, I'm not sure what to do.

Appreciate any help yall can provide.

Can you temporarily rig your fuel pump to a 2 gallon gas can and see if it still does it?

I'm not that familiar with the pickup tube on a 2005 Gator fuel tank but I'd isolate a bad pickup by trying a gas can.

I will give that a shot. Didn't think of that as a way to test the gas. Thanks!

Does it have a carburetor?

Possibly bad gas. That's the first thing I'd check…looks like you're headed into that.

Is there fuel filter and have you replaced it?

Could be spark plugs are fouled or a plug wire is sitting loose.

Could also be something came out of the old fuel pump and is sitting downstream in the fuel system.

No carburetor.

Haven't had a chance to go out and check gas. I'll put new plugs in it too. That's easy and inexpensive to try.

Not sure on the fuel filter either. I'll have to look around.

Appreciate the ideas.

If fuel injected then check those. More than likely your fuel filter is clogged up. I had a friend with a 2008 Polaris that would idle but would die when given gas. It needed up being some sort of electronic module.
