My son had his first boo boo the other night in his truck. I do not want to file an insurance claim as the body damage is very minimal. It does have paint/plastic residue on it where he side swiped his friends bumper and taillight backing out at Sonic.

Old school me thinks about using compound to buff it out. I am sure there are newer or better techniques now that will keep me from potentially putting swirls in the clear coat.

Any suggestions?

It looks worse than it actually is:

Try graffiti remover, it won't take your paint off, but might take the scrapes off.

Then try a heat gun on medium or low settings and a plastic razor blade. Maybe use the graffiti remover at the same time.

If you need to use a compound, get the 3M compound and polish (separate bottles and not exactly cheap). Use a buffer to apply. I burned the clear coat on my wife's old car trying to do PDR with a heat gun. The above restores the clear coat to original condition as far as the eye is concerned.
