Have the 5.3 2 WD engine

Ive been on the Maintenace plan with dealership I negotiated when we bought the vehicle and it just expired. Meaning we havent had to pay for an oil change on this vehicle until now.

Is a syntenic blend necessary? Most oil change places are charging over $120 for an 8 qt change. But im just not well versed enough to know if this is overkill or my engine type truly requires it.

Have the exact same set up and do all of my own changes. Cost is about 2/3's of what you got quoted if you do it yourself.

Despite what people want to believe, I do think oil ratings are given with longevity in mind. I'd stick with synthetic. How much cheaper can it really be to use something else?

There is a Chevy dealership next door to a GMC dealership by me.

The Chevy place will do 8qt oil change & tire rotation for $89. Not worth me getting dirty at that price.

The GMC wants $100 for just the oil change.

Eta: Your truck probably specs Dexos. Pretty sure that is only available in synthetic. Look at the oil cap or owners manual.

It just needs to meet the dexos spec on the oil cap.

1ags, not to hijack, but do you ever run something thicker than the OEM 5w-30 in the Ford 3.5 eco boost? The GM "fix" got me wondering if a euro 5w-40 full synthetic might provide better protection for a turbo engine in a Texas summer, fuel economy considerations notwithstanding.

I don't have any issues using 5W30 with 5K intervals with Ecoboosts. I'm using 0w30 Mobil1 in our Expedition and Godzilla. Mainly only because it was on sale crazy cheap. Otherwise I have had great luck with Kirkland Full synthetic and use it largely for my fleet customers with some applications with over 300K miles in service with no issues.

ETA. This is an excellent video discussion on oil weights too

GMC dealership by me in Houston will do 3 oil changes and tire rotations for $149 or $199 (I saw the sign last week, but can't remember price.). I used to do this, before I started doing my own because it was about the same price. It might be worth asking if they have the same packages since I've seen it at multiple dealerships.

What dealership?

3 oil changes for $149 each or $149 for all 3?

All 3. It was in the window at Demontrond by 1960 last week and I've gotten it at Texan in Humble as well.. but like I said it might be $199, you'll want to call and ask.

the one in katy said they dont offer.

The one in sugarland said they offer the 3 oil changes and 3 tire rotations but that $199 deal was only for cars. For trucks and big SUVs it was ~$250. full syntenic

Did you specify with demontrod or other dealership if that deal was for the car or trucks or both?

I just called the Demontrond GMC on 1960. They confirmed it was $199 for trucks. $149 for cars.

Do it yourself and use synthetic.
