My dad was born in 1947 and when I was really young he bought a 1947 Ford pickup truck. He drove it for a while and then the transmission went out, so he parked it and it sat. For years and years it sat. He always dreamed of restoring it and getting it back on the road but never had a the chance to get it done.
I few years ago I got the truck and wanted to get it restored for him. Long story short, it was just too far gone. The amount of work it needed was just too much. We had a earnest discussion about it and he said he didn't really have any particular sentimental attachment to that particular truck. He just really wanted a '47 Ford truck since that was his birth year, and he'd wanted one for a long time.
So, enter Earl. I found Earl in Colorado where it had spent its entire life. The seller was the second owner, and he had purchased in in the early 2000's from a local mining family that had owned it since new. Now it's mine and it's in Texas. This is about as close to OEM as you can find. It has the original flathead V8 with a 4 speed transmission (3 + low) running on a 6 volt system. It did have some paint work (poor paint work) in the 80's and some of the hardware chromed. It runs like a champ.
