My 7 year old son and I spent some quality time under my 2019 F-250 performing some 50k mile fluid changes (rear diff, front diff, xfer case, transmission fluid and filter and coolant). While under there I noticed the oil leak on/around the oil pan seems worse from my last oil change. I am not sure if it is only an upper pan leak or both upper and lower.

In researching the repair, it seems like it is highly dependent on the shop and technician you get as there are multiple points of human error that are possible from improper prep to utilizing the wrong sealant. I bought this truck in Nov. '24 as a CPO w/ 36k miles on it, so I bought the Ford ESP Warranty that was available and I will be taking it to a dealer.

My question is, which dealer in the Houston area (I live on the west side) is known for having quality diesel techs? I'm willing to drive to any suburb for a quality repair.

On my son's 2016, they had to pull the transmission to replace the upper oil pan gasket.
I had never heard of that before.
The shop actually used an older model F250 pan which had an actual gasket with gasket groove instead of the silicone only.

Can't help you with a shop but it sounds like you've done a bit of homework. I've got an '18 and recently went through this. If it's the upper, they're going to have to pull the transmission. If you can find an older oil pan with the gasket, that should save you a lot of the headache of the human error. I couldn't find one. It's going to continue being a problem if you don't address the crankcase filter. Filter gets clogged, engine retains pressure and ultimately finds the weak point in the RSV seal on the upper oil pan. Mine had an unserviceable filter. I know they changed this but you need to add that to your maintenance plan if you can access it. Probably needs to be changed every 10-15K miles. Someone might say longer but I know those pans start leaking from 20-50K miles. I went with a filter delete kit to remove the headache forever.

Exactly. The power stroke magic shop near Tomball we used told me they buy every older pan they can find to do this job regularly. We even waited a week extra for one to come in as they were out of inventory at the time.

I'm assuming a dealer isn't going to put on the older style pan with the gasket even if they could get their hands on one.

I am aware of the design change of the crankcase filter, but I thought the new design was a baffle system that did not need to be changed. There is no filter in it to get clogged, or at least that was my understanding.

With the warranty, likely can't explore the filter delete kit just yet.

Yeah I seriously doubt a dealer would swap that pan out for a model that isn't per the spec of the truck. I'd definitely ask or look around for one. Its worth it for the better design.

I know there's a design change or two. I thought the new ones were serviceable but maybe they just removed the filters all together. Looks like there's some after market designs as well. Either way, that's likely the root of your oil pan issue so I'd make sure that's addressed or you'll have another leaky pan.

Derailing my own thread here a little since no one seems to be able to identify a reputable dealership.

I took a deeper dive into the CCV filter and found the YouTube video below where the guy tests the crankcase pressure utilizing the different models of filters from Ford and some SPE offerings. My truck is a '19 but has the filter he references as '11-'16 model years (I think he just has bad info on the years used). That filter tested the worst, so will definitely be looking to make a change at the CCV filter.

Guy did a good job on the video. My "delete" is the SPE vent to atmosphere model he showed. Would recommend running that vent line to the passenger side. You can definitely smell that exhaust on the driver's side.

Change your crankcase filter first. Many oil leaks in diesels are caused by crankcase pressure
