Any good lease deals on EVs with the impending expiration of the $7500 tax credit? I would think dealerships would be motivated to get deals done before the tax credit expires.

You think the dealerships would just lower the costs by $7,500?

This isn't new news so depending on what brand you're after you're going to find some very low day supply or no availability across some brands. Manufacture support and dealer push has been strong for months to move on from these knowing Oct 1 was coming. That being said you're unlikely to get a better deal come Oct 1 across most brands.

I am surprised to not see any big sales or pushes to make sale before the credit expires.

Prologues were massively discounted last month.

The big sales have been going on since July. EV day supply across the entire market is lower than gas vehicle supply right now. For the most part the EV deal you can get now was the same deal
You could get in July and August. The flushing of EV started many months ago as soon as the tax credit ending was signed into law.

I guess I just didn't notice. Makes sense.

It'll be interesting to see where the market goes now that these incentives are gone. With the changes to CAFE standards coming from the Trump Admin I think it's extremely likely we see some manufacturers abandon EV entirely which I think is good. I love my Model Y and think for a daily driver EV is simply a better option than ICE but let's let the market decide what's better.

Sounds like Ford and GM are going to offer a $7500 discount for a while longer.

Looks like Hyundai dropped IONIQ msrp $9k for 2026 models.

The credit was always money in the manufactures pockets. EVs will be fine

This is a real benefit to Texags community as we were likely all phased out of the government EV credit due to our high, millionaire level incomes.

I'm guessing most of them are cancelled in the next 3-5 years. Most manufacturers are losing gobs of money making EV so the loss of the tax credit makes them even less profitable. They might hang around til the 2028 election to see if a Democrat win might signal a return of more government mandates but that aside most of these will die.

They would only be canceled in the US. Abroad EVs are here to stay.

You can look at Germany and Canada removing the tax incentive. There was an initial drop in sales, then a return to the median.

There are also a ton of evs hitting the used car market at reasonable prices. This low income adoption at scale is happening.

You may be right but I'm guessing we'll see most domestic makers stop making them. Life in Europe and Asia is different than it is here and it's probably a better platform in places where there's better mass transit for longer trips. Here until battery tech advances to the point where you can get 400 miles from a charge people are going to hesitate if that kind of trip has to be part of their usage. I say that as a guy that just drove a Tesla to Colorado and back. It's a fantastic car but without government force makers wouldn't have been nearly as committed as they have been. My $.02.
