I am trying to upgrade my current console ports to USB-C since many devices have adopted this.

Doesn't look like an after market product exists to swap out the dual USB-A ports; so I'm looking for a solution with the cigarette lighter ports (which probably should have been omitted but I guess I'm glad I have them now.

A small mini plug in would be ideal, but I also found this to swap out the entire thing:

Would this work?

Also, any chance I can still preserve Apple Car Play functionality?

Why not just buy usb-a to usb-c cords and save yourself the hassle?

Well that's what I've been doing but those cables don't seem to last long. And I think the recharge time would be shorter with the newer USB-C

I have had good success with Anker brand cables that are woven/braided and not just plastic.

High quality A-C cable is best option for CarPlay. The get a fast charger for the 110v or 12v because usb-a has horrible max power delivery.

I'm gonna be honest I never cared much for wired CarPlay. I always just did Bluetooth for audio then would only use CarPlay when I absolutely needed maps on the screen.

Absolutely wild (and wrong) take

I use these for my charger cables and/or wired carplay:

USB A to C Adapter

I use one of these to convert my wired carplay to wireless:

Auto Plexion Wireless Carplay

Edit to add: After reading some auto plexion reviews, don't buy from them. Every comment and review is that the company is a scam or the product doesn't work. I guess I got lucky because mine's been working great for almost a year (knock on wood). I found this one on Amazon that has much better reviews and includes and SD card slot so you can put your own media on there (most do not have this option):

Wireless Carplay Adapter

Wireless CarPlay is great. Wired is trash garbage. But I'm in and out of my truck constantly for work while it's running so wired is a non starter.

Also, for a USB A to USB C cable in the car, I use one of these. I also have an older one with lightning port for my old cell phone. Never had a problem with either cable and I'm rough on stuff. Additionally, the coiled design is much easier to deal with in a car. As long as you need it to be but the connector isn't hanging down in a dirty floorboard.

Coiled USB A to USB C cable.
