I have an '18 F150 Lariat. 80k mi. Cam phasers fixed twice.I have a roll n lok and a ranchhand on my truck. really like this thing but 1) my wife got in a fender bender in CS at the last football game driving it while I was setting up at Aggie Park and 2) the known tranmission issue. The ranch hand bent into the hood and the hood has a dent but aside from that theres no functional issue and everything has been flawless.

I want a truck to keep as my third vehicle and for my son to drive in 10 years I'm considering swapping it out for an 18 Tundra. I see an SR5 locally with like 35k miles. For 34k. Seems rather low miles - need to get the story on this. Looks like no accidents and 2 owners. What are some things to look out for when I check this vehicle out?

Realistically how much value do I lose on my trade bc of the accident?

Thanks for any advice in advance.

Sell it, invest the money for 10 years and buy your son a better truck down the road. I kept a truck as a third vehicle for a number of years and it's just a bad financial decision

Not bad advice but I do need it for towing , hunting and hauling etc. so that's a no go. Wife and I already have our other two vehicles for whipping around town and the kiddos and such.

the logic to want to swap what you have for something lower miles is fine. doesn't really make sense to me to try to think ahead 10 years about handing down what will then be a 17 year old truck.

if you just repair/fix what you have and invest the difference you would spend now you can find a good beater for the kid when the time comes

As someone with more vehicles than drivers, I'll say it is nice to have an extra. When one is in the shop, you have a backup. If I lived where Uber was common, I might feel different
