My 2017 4WD 3.5L boost F150 has it's second oil pan leak in less than 3 years. First one was replaced by dealer under warranty in Feb '23. This second leak just started. No longer under warranty, and dealer says the install is only a 2yr parts/labor warranty of course.

Dealer quoted me ~$1100. Independent mechanic who I've used many times before and believe is trustworthy quoted me ~$1000.

I am awaiting a response from Ford on if they can do anything for me on this one since they replaced it already, the oil pans are a known problem on this model and year, and i'm not that far past the 2yr part warranty mark. I'm not optimistic they will do anything though.

Do I just suck it up and pay? Is $1000 about right?

Dealer parts are only 2 years? I thought it was 3/36 for dealer warranted repairs with their own parts???

If the aftermarket world has built some kind of upgrade, I'd try that. But also, I need to know how much of a leak there is. My diesels and old gassers drip from the oil plug fairly regular but it's not a concern to me.

I dropped the pan on a JK and replaced the gasket a year ago.

I wonder how much more difficult a 3.5 Boost would be. Can't imagine it's that hard.

$1k seems bonkers. A gasket is like a $15 part.

You mean with Ford? Or open a case of booze and chug it as that's the only remedy I'm going to get...

Open a case with Ford. If you have a relationship with the dealer, Ford may split the cost 3 ways to keep you as a customer. Doesn't hurt to try.

I have a 2015 5.0 2WD.

My son and I changed my oil pan gasket this summer for ~$125 including the oil change and some tools that we needed.

I'm not mechanical at all...my son took autoshop in HS last year and now believes he can complete any job.

It was difficult to get all 16 bolts off/on but otherwise not a hard job and fun for us to work on together.

Based on the YouTube videos that guided us - having 4WD makes it more difficult because you have to deal with the front differential that isn't there for the 2WD.

Oil pan gasket change is not a hard job at all if you have ever changed your oil before. I'm sure there are several youtube videos out there to follow as well.

The OP has a plastic oil pan, gasket is not replaceable. You have to replace the entire pan assembly. It's not difficult, you just have to remove a crossbar. I've done it on the driveway in several trucks.
