I was going to take my 2018 5.0 to the auto-mechanic this morning due to a new oil leak that started around 120k miles, but for some reason this morning my key won't even turn, so now I am having to call a mobile locksmith and hope they can fix so I can even start the damn thing. I am also having to listen to my wife b*tch about American made trucks.

I personally think this could happen to any truck, but since we're talking about Ford...

If you're looking to buy then get a 2015 - 2017 (5.0). The 6 speed and Gen 2 Coyote are more reliable.

If you already own it, then oil consumption is an issue on that model thanks to the lack of cylinder liners. My next door neighbor had valve train issues on his 2018 5.0L that led to a warranty engine replacement.

The lack of port injection can lead to carbon buildup. Might want to put on a catch can as well.

Also the 10r80s equipped trucks made prior to August 16th, 2022 are prone to CDF drum failure. Prone as in, it's just a matter of time.

IWE failure is possibly (more likely if you off road hard, Raptors experience this commonly).

Time to change the transmission and both differential fluids.

Change the spark plugs if it hasn't been done.

2018?

Just budget for a new transmission and a new engine when you purchase. Other than that, should be solid.

Does the transmission slip on an incline at 50 mph speed?

Mine has 8/22 on the door frame sticker. How do I find out the exact date?

VIN decoders. It's been awhile since I did it. I was hoping my 2019 was built at the end of the year to avoid cam phaser failure. Of course it was built in January.

BTW anyone interested in the heavy duty trucks, I looked it up today and the 10r140 CDF drum upgrade was at the end of December 2022, so I would only consider a truck built in January 2023+.
