Screw in tire

I was leaving to drop the kids off a school, and noticed a screw in the front tire of my 2024 Telluride. I haven't messed with it (so it may not have even punctured the tire), and have an appointment with Discount Tire to get it removed, but what are y'alls opinions? Too close to the sidewall to repair (at DT)? These are the original tires so no certs or anything. Take it to some other shop here in BCS that will repair it (if too close to sidewall for DT)? Other options?

If it didn't, you have another puncture.

Plug should be fine for that spot, or get them to pull the tire off the rim and internally patch it if you want a better fix. Either way should be fine.

If it's gone through...

General rule I think is 1 inch of the sidewall. I see a new tire in your future.

Discount tire isn't going to fix that; they won't do a repair anywhere in the last tread ring closest to the side.

I'd take it to a llantera/vulcanizadora or grab a repair kit from Harbor Freight and fix it yourself.

Update:

Took it to Discount Tire, they pulled the screw and tested for an air leak but couldn't find one. Told me to watch the tire pressure the next few days just in case, but should be good. They said if it does start leaking, they can't repair it due to location.

Thanks for the update. Be careful!

For the future, if you are interested, Discount tire will sell (at least they used to) Certs for tires on new cars if you bring it in within the first few miles of purchase. This is assuming they carry the brand.

If you're near Waco, I got a guy - if you hablo a little bit.

The amount of effort those guys put in was impressive. After the 2nd patch location didn't stop the leaks, my brother wound up having to buy a new tire. Hopefully he learned to stop driving over Mesquite.

Did this a year and a half ago with a new to me truck. Bought certs for the throwaway Hill Country Fare tires it came with. Couple weeks ago took it in for a slow leak and it was a cut on the sidewall. Figured I was about six months from needing new tires anyway so I just replaced all four with Michelin Defenders. They applied the cert to one of the new ones so that $20 got me a $280 tire.

I had virtually the same issue with a tire on my Telluride and discount fixed it no problem.

Cert?

Certificate. It's the warranty they offer on each tire. The one by my house always called them certs and it stuck.

I have also always found them to be pretty generous and lenient on covering the tires that came on a car I recently purchased because of my long history buying from them on all my cars. Don't think they have ever charged me for a repair on one of them Unfortunately, that doesn't extend to replacement.

I've had several tires replaced for punctures or sidewall cuts. Certs are definitely worth the money for me.

I ALWAYS cert up on new purchases! I tend to get a lot of nails. More than pays for itself for me.
