Has anyone bought one recently? I have found 2026 base XLEs listed for $46,865. Getting quotes like $49,500 out the door. I feel like nobody wants to budge. Is it not realistic to think I could negotiate something like $1500 off MSRP and end up at that plus $200 for title and license (~48,500)? Thanks in advance.

You talking about a Highlander or grand Highlander ?

Location ?

You should be able to get minimum of 7% off MSRP on one and possibly up to 10-11.

Thanks. We are looking for a regular Highlander. Yes, that is what I found out after researching this more and talking to some friends who recently bought. It seems the car market has cooled from that post covid frenzy. I have thrown a couple of 10% + tax + $200 title and license offers out there to see if I can get any serious responses. It's almost feeling like I need to walk into some of these places and make firm offers in person as opposed to phone/text, but I don't want to drive 100 miles to do that. Man, I hate buying cars.

Where are you located ?

Here a few that are easier to deal with

Family Toyota of Burleson

Community Toyota of Baytown

Toyota of cedar park

Also BCS Toyota but sometimes you have to work them a little harder

Avoid any of the Toyota dealers owned by keating unless you waste time on nonsense

In-laws, the ones in Corpus, bought a Highlander about 4 years ago but I'm not certain on the pricing.

Thanks for all the replies everyone. The best "deal" I came up with yesterday was $48,000 out the door on a new 2026 with a sticker of $49,700. However, the base price on the XLE is $46,865. The reason this one was at $49,700 was due to BS that I don't want or need (like all wheel drive, floor mat package, etc.). That's about 9% off that sticker, but only about 4% off the "base" priced one. Is it reasonable to think if I hold off I should be able to find a $46,865 priced one and be able to get 7-10% off that? I think those "adders" on the sticker are just another racket to get the margin up.

What dealership is this ? The add ons are bs and are always negotiable at the right dealership. Such as an additional $900 for gps tracking when Toyota already has that from the factory, and nitrogen in tires, and paint protection etc etc etc

AWD would be a heck of a dealer add-on…I think the car in question just has more options s than they want/need.

Good point but it looks like awd is standard on the 2026 so OP may be out of luck

On the GH i bought they had come out in May of 2023 and I purchased it in Nov of 2023. In the beginning they were actually adding market adjustments of up to 5,000 on the sticker on them due to demand and lack of supply. OP may just need to be patient to let supply build if this is the case. You could always "order" one in but with gulf states Toyota each dealer has a certain number of allocations so you technically aren't building it to order.

To that point, I am surprised I cannot find a base XLE black-on-black ($46,895) in stock anywhere in Texas. All the ones I find have stickers of $49K+ due to other added options. Cedar Park has one, but it says pending. Do dealers typically get more cars in stock as the new year progresses or are these normal inventory levels? I would think a base XLE black-on-black would be easy to find.

Dealers almost never have base models in stock, or on order for that manner.

People want some of the extras and not just the dealer add on stuff (like the 12" screen, all weather floor mats, etc.). It also increases the dealer profit.

Yeah, some of it's BS (paint or interior protection, etc.) but I would think you're going to have trouble find a stock base XLE

I bought from Family Toyota of Burleson and had a good experience. The adds from BCS were awful and "not negotiable" so I left. Denton Toyota also has a good reputation.

My luck with this process so far has been terrible. I have not dealt with one salesman that hasn't pulled ridiculous negotiation tactics. These SOBs are vile. Here is just a sample of the crap that I've heard:

1.) Oh, we just sold that one late last night, but we have these other 3 for $5,000 more.
2.) The price on that one is because it was a one-off fleet vehicle.
3.) Price only good for today.
4.) You're lucky, we almost sold this after we talked at 5:30 yesterday.

Are there really people that fall for this sort of stuff? Being treated like this frankly pisses me off.

We had a bad experience with BCS Toyota when buying a used Highlander for the wife last year. I'd never willingly buy a car from anyone in BCS.

Does anyone have any advise on how to figure out how to sort through the bait and switch stuff listed on the dealer websites? I guess only call about ones that have actual pictures?

Apparently, it's NOT realistic.

Dealing with some stuff with a Kia dealership too. I'm more interested in the monthly payment and interest rates they can give but none of the salespeople know anything about that stuff.

AWD is going to hold it's value better than 2WD. I'd never buy an SUV without AWD, it just feels wrong. Like buying a V6 mustang.

We bought a 2022 Hylander Hybrid Platinum AWD in September of 2023 with 37K miles for $46K. I think the MSRP was around $65K.

Low mileage used can save you a lot on a Toyota that's going to run forever anyway.

That's a great deal. I am leaning trying to find used at this point. Carfax.com seems to have a pretty neat filter on there that is really helpful.
