Is there anyone here that has some experience with the Texas Standing Mile race? Id like to prepare a car for it and the tires alone seem to be a little challenging. There aren't a bunch of options to begin with and the ones that people are using are made mostly in 30 and 35 side profile.

Anyways, we're looking to go in March as spectators and then possibly run the car in October.

Not a clue on car stuff, but I've run 3 times on a motorcycle. Z-rated tires. Best advice is to follow the tech sheet exactly so you don't fail tech inspection.

On the grid the last time. I was a fat boy then…305 lbs… and ran 155 with no bodywork on the bike.

Did it a lot for the first 5 years of the Texas Mile. Raced some with the ECTA in Maxton, NC as well. Fielded a 79 Z-28 in C/CGALT. What would you like to know?

Edit to add I was an LSR car and teched by the SCTA rules for my class. Ran the widest front runner I could find and NASCAR Eagles in the back with the inner-liner removed.

We're currently the fastest EV (car or bike) to have run the Texas Mile, at 186.7MPH. Not sure how it is with the car guys, but all the motorcycle people have been fantastic and we've had a lot of fun. Everyone is helpful and the TM events have been run well every time we've been there.

If you want a good pit spot, get there early and pay for Friday too. In general, be ready for lots of waiting. There have been at least a couple on-track events (engines blown, oil down, spin, etc...) at every event that slows things down some. Friday and later Sunday will be a lot less busy.

Not sure if it matters for the car guys, but there's a hump a little after half track that can be a little unsettling for the bikes. That's also where the wind starts picking up if there's a crosswind, so at least something to be aware of.

Ive seen the sheet for the inspection. I need to go over it again but it seems like there is a rule on how old your seat belts have to be? This is putting me into the market for new belts, which basically means racing seats and a harness. Not a big deal.

Ive googled a couple of times which tires to run and several forums pop up with drivers discussing which tires they ran. The challenge is finding a tire in an 18 inch diameter that's not essentially a rubber band on a wheel. All the corvette drivers probably have no issues given their wheels are taller.

Im also having to change my suspension since im currently having clearance issues. Going with a lower profile tire for this race just makes everything with the car more difficult.

Harness, helmet, suit, scatter-shield, dampener, anything with an SFI sticker is going to have an expiration date and will/should be checked. Not sure how the street car tech goes and what dates they require.

Edit to add, you don't need a Z tire unless you run Z speeds. Also consider a smaller set of wheels if they will clear your calipers. Opens up a few more tire options.
