Sorry I know I can research this but any quick guidance would be appreciated… our house burned down Tuesday morning. We are fine but we are inundated with insurance process and finding housing so this would be a big help.

Anyone know the prices for replacing keys for a 2014 Tundra? I have the title but no longer have any keys. Will it have to be towed in to a dealer?

Looks like a Mobile Automotive Locksmith should be able to help you out.

For a 2014 Toyota Tundra with zero keys, you'll need to get a new transponder key and fob, which involves cutting the key blade and programming the chip to your truck, typically requiring a dealership or an automotive locksmith who can cut the key and program it to your VIN, often using specialized tools, with costs ranging from $150-$430 depending on the service and key type.
Steps to Get a New Key:
[ol]
  • Prove Ownership: Gather your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), photo ID, and proof of ownership (like registration or title).
  • Contact a Professional:
  • Get the Key & Fob: You'll need a new remote head key (which includes the key blade and fob with a transponder chip).
  • Cutting & Programming: The locksmith or dealer will cut the key blade to match your truck and program the chip and remote to your vehicle.
  • [/ol]

A local locksmith charged me 70 bucks to program a keyfob I bought on the internet and 10 bucks to cut the key. I already had 1 working Fob/key for that Nissan, but I took it to them.

Even with the mobile guy coming to you is "should" be cheaper than the dealership..

So sorry to hear about your house. A good locksmith should be able to remove at least this one burden/irritation from you as you try to piece everything back together. Good luck

Costco in College Station has a van out front on the weekend that makes keys and programs fobs.

Thank you. It will definitely make me feel a little bit better as a dad to help my daughter get her transportation back.

She is normally so easy-going and really just stoic. Never gets upset about anything, but this is been pretty traumatic for her.

OK, so my truck is currently at the dealership. I just had it towed up there this afternoon. They had told me before I had it towed that they could replace the key and the separate fob. They quoted me $1064 to make two sets.

Now they are saying that the fobs are discontinued and that they can make the keys for a total of $760.

Does this make sense? Seems crazy that I couldn't get a fob for a 2014 Toyota any longer.

    Where are you located?

I can recommend a mobile guy in Austin, if you're nearby.

I am in San Antonio. I actually had a mobile guy come out yesterday, but he had issues. He made me a key that unlocks the door, but he could not get it to work the ignition. He left me the key he made and did not charge me anything.

This truck was stolen and recovered back in 2021 and I cannot exactly remember what they did back then. I don't know if they redid something with the ignition or just replaced the keys, but I think they did something with the ignition that caused this guy to have a problem.

I had it towed to the place that did the repairs back then

    Gotcha.

he doesnt service S.A., but if you're up this way...it might be worth reaching out to Kyle with Noble Locksmith (512-877-3366).

He was a good dude, who has very fair prices.

Good Lord the dealership is telling me it's gonna be $1800 to give me two sets of keys (no fobs!) that will lock and unlock the doors and work the ignition.

Otherwise, it is $1300 for two keys that work the ignition and two keys that work the door locks

Apparently, this all stems back from this same dealership did repairs on the truck after it was stolen and recovered and they replaced something in the ignition and/or the locks 5 years ago.

It would be cheaper to just go to an aftermarket keyless entry/remote start. You might actually prefer it.

Yes that was gonna be my solution for the fobs but I still need the keys.

I had it towed to what I thought was Alamo Toyota, but is apparently now Schottenkirk Toyota. I've used them in the past just because of proximity. Never been too impressed and so for I'm not impressed this time around.

Well, I'm guess I'm gonna have to let the dealership Rochambeau me on this one. Gotta have keys and I don't really wanna mess with having it towed to another dealership to maybe only hear the same thing.

You are getting bent over and robbed on this, but I do understand you need a working truck.

My 2015 4Runner had a key made because that was the type for a 2015 4Runner. It doesn't have a fob. Still have to put the key in the ignition.

The price you got per key seems about right at a dealer.

    Holy Hell!

    Eff Schottenkirk Toyota!!!

Now another $500 part is needed so the total is gonna be $2400

There is a backstory to this vehicle and why I brought it to this dealership. This truck was stolen from me and recovered about four years ago. I took it to this dealership for the repairs and they replaced the locks and the keys in the ignition cylinder apparently.

That is one of the reasons I brought it back to the dealership is because of the history there. Now they're saying that the ignition cylinder should really never ever be changed on this vehicle and because it was changed it is wearing out the housing and so that has to be replaced.

I told him this is getting beyond ridiculous and asked if there was anything they could do to work with me on this in light of the situation. So then I got a call from their "vip concierge" with some "options".

The first thing he asked me was if Insurance was gonna be paying for this because of the fire. I kind of fib and said yes, but that I am maxed out on contents reimbursement and so this would ultimately be coming out of my pocket. That may be true. I don't know at this point but I don't like them screwing my insurance company or me.

The other option was for me to trade the vehicle in and see if we can work a deal that way. Are you kidding me, *****???

never mind the fact that statement is complete BS

Sounds pretty par for the course for Shottenkirk

May be worse than going to a Keating dealership

Wow. Talk about getting bent over and going in dry. Really sorry you're having to deal with this. Hopefully a reasonable solution can be reached. This really should be the last thing you need to be dealing with right now. Eff that dealership.
