What's the most reliable current engine - tundra v6 (not the iforcemax hybrid), ford 3.5 or gmc 6.2?

Out of those only options, I would pick the 3.5.

Both the Tundra v6 and 6.2 recalls are not adequately addressing the engine bearing issues, at least for my comfort level. Still beyond the random one or two issues.

So if you are looking for an engine platform that is highly likely to not have engine bearing issues before 70,000 miles, the 3.5 is a damn good pick.

Other engines that are not currently having major issues are the Ram V8 and the GM 5.3. Edit...the Ford 5.0 as well.

Ford 5.0…hopefully (since that's what I chose last year for my F150)?

Ford seems to have their engine kinks worked out as theirs have been around for a while.

Turbos, you still gotta replace at some point. No matter whoms.

Fingers crossed Ford has their 10 speed fixed though…

God willing, my next truck will have a "Godzilla".
The Ford "Godzilla" engine is a family of large-displacement, naturally aspirated V8 gasoline engines, primarily the 7.3L, designed for heavy-duty applications in Ford Super Duty trucks and E-Series vans, known for its robust overhead valve (OHV) pushrod design, cast-iron block, forged crankshaft, and reliability for work and towing, also popular as a crate engine for hot rods due to its simple, powerful, and tunable nature, though early versions saw some lifter issues.

That's what I thought until my valve body failed at 75k.

Gas or diesel?

I ran 200k in my 2020 6.6 gas with nothing but oil changes. No brakes no trans service no plugs nothing else maintenance wise.

Gas. 2021. Had nothing but oil changes and routine maintenance until one day it decided to not want to move while in drive (reverse worked).

But that's the transmission, not the engine

Yeah you are correct. I got the last year of the 6 speed which was great. The 10spd is garbage. Part of why I went Ram on the replacement to get the 8speed ZF

As far as GM, get the 6.2 and immediately put a cylinder deactivator defeat on it and change the oil to 5w-30 or 40 and never look back. Same with the 5.3. This should make your engine good, although you should not have to do these things to begin with.

For the vast majority of users, this is the way.

My wife's 2023 6.2L just blew… after the recall inspection and change in oil being used.

We knew it was coming based on previous issues they couldn't replicate.

They are replacing it for free and there is a 150k 10 year warranty, but it's still a PITA.

WOW

It's like they know it'll happen again.

Bought a 2024 7.3 beginning of last year with the 4.3 gears Tremor package.

It sucks gas and the 34gallon tank is dumb but have loved it so far. Simple engine. Sounds FANTASTIC with the Ford Borla exhaust. Tons of power. Easily pulled my 35' 9k travel trailer through Colorado last year over multiple mountain passes.

This was the fix for all vehicles that were part of the recall. Substantially large group. Car is paid off, one side of me wants to just dump it but the warranty gives a little peace of mind.

Also not aware of a ton of other options comparable to the Yukon xl that are also issue free. My wife would be happy going back to her more simple 2014 Escalade.

I also had the legacy 5.0L V8 in my F150. Really liked it.

I'm in my 3rd F150 V8

Never had any problems with anything, except the entertainment screen bugging out maybe once a quarter

115,000 miles currently on the lariat. Love the truck.
It's fun to do bad things.

I'd still go LZ0. The LZ0 had issue earlier in the year but it was a supplier bearing issue. Gone now.

This dilemma between those OEMs is what drove me to Ram.

Hemi.

Edit: This dilemma and the rumble of a cold start makes my private parts tingle.
