…usaa has lost their minds, or I'm out of touch with reality in 2026. New driver w/no accidents or traffic violations. $2400 for 6 months. I'm going to shop, but figured I'd check with the board to see if this is the new normal.

High but go forward with low expectations. I've got a teen about to be in the same boat, so have been asking around with other parents. Try to exclude from other household vehicles if able. Look at companies like progressive that will do the tracker for 60 days to follow habits and give a break. Report back if crack the code!

Try Mercury Insurance.
I've been using them for ~25 years.
Or get an insurance broker to do the legwork.

USAA has absolutely lost their way. I dropped them for Progressive this past summer. Three cars, two adults and one 18 year old girl. No at-fault accidents or traffic violations. $7000 per 6 month cycle. Yes, Louisiana's stupid tort environment drives up rates, but Progressive is $2400 per 6 month cycle for slightly higher coverages. Same $1000 deductible.
I guess paying Rob Gronkowski to make stupid ass commercials must be really expensive

I have wondered why USAA even has commercials when you have to of served or have the ability to purchase passed to you from an immediate family member who has served. Its not like just anyone can have it, and if you have served there is a 99% chance that you know about USAA.
My wife and I have not had a speeding ticket or claim of any type for over 30 years and our USAA goes up every year. I really do need to shop around.
Quote:
1) stop aggressive growth and advertising so heavily.
2) Improve front line support/voip system
3) Improve internal controls. All of the lawsuits and civil penalties USAA has incurred over the last decade is just unacceptable.

Thanks for the replies. She's in a new Mazda CX-5. Brazos county.
I won't be putting her on her own policy bc as the poster above pointed out, she will sometimes jump in one of the other vehicles and run here or there.
Besides, I can see the breakout for premium on each, and it's the Mazda where she's the primary diver that's the problem. I'll definitely be shopping.

And when she has an accident and they investigate and find out she was driving a different vehicle evey day they will deny the claim.

I shop around a lot
Used brokers and have called myself to all the usual companies including USAA.
Went to state farm a couple years ago, just switched to all state and saved $2k a year on the combo. In my experience the brokers don't save you anything.
It takes 5 mins to get a quote directly from almost all the companies.

Permissive use is one thing. I am talking about saying they are driving the 2002 camry as their daily but in reality they are driving the 2025 4runner daily.
Insurance companies can and will deny claims if you lie to them.
