Howdy, I am an old with an urge to get a new vehicle,, GAS ONLY. I currently have a 2019 GMC Denali Ultra, 4X4, with only 45,000 miles (an Old as I said). Great condition, I cannot find a new Denali Ultimate anywhere, and really do not want another one, or really do not need a pickup. Do not like the Ford Bronco. I like the Defender 110 but have HUGE reservations about British autos. Looked at the loaded Chevy Traverse but do not want or need 3rd row seats.

Does anyone know anything about the Defender? If you do not live in San Antonio or Houston where do you get them serviced.

Another suggestions, want something top of the line, all (or almost) the bells and whistles. Just finding nothing I really like. I remember it used to be easier, much less to chose from and you took what you could get.

If that's your market, have you looked at a Land Cruiser?

If you look at the Land Cruiser - you need to look at the gx550 as well (overtrail +).

Many good gas SUV options.

Toyota Landcruiser (all)
Lexus G550 (new)
Lexus LX600 (less new, still nice)
INEOS Grenadier (BMW+Defender 110)
AMG G 63 SUV (because yolo)

May be the first time I've heard the Traverse being thrown in the mix with the Denali and Defender....

If you want a Range Rover anything, be sure to set aside money for maintenance after the warranty expires. When something breaks (which hasn't been often for my or my dad's Rovers), the expense to fix it is outrageous. But his Velar Autobiography has been fantastic to hoon around in.

Since this is Texags after all, how do you feel about a Toyota with a V-12?

Ineos is British and wanting all or almost all bells/whistles rules out Lexus/Toyota.

Doesn't sound like money is an issue, so Gelandewagen is an easy button. GV80 Coupe if you want an Asian manufacturer.

Rivian SUV maybe? A friend has the big one and it's really nice. +1 for the Land Cruiser. G wagon could be fun. Stay far away from the Traverse.

Edit: Fail on my part for disregarding the gas requirement.

Ford Edge or explorer for what you described. Or the Lincoln model of those. Third row seats can usually be left flat and not used in most vehicles. An older relative has the Ford Edge and it's the perfect height to get in and out of with knee issues and the rear hatch is a perfect size to get a wheelchair or Walker out of. The Walker also goes into the back seat easily.
Another has the ford explorer with similar results. Neither have broke down in 5 plus years.

Nah, Texags standard is to recommend something impossible to get or way out of his price range. Like a $4500 custom built rifle for somebody's 7 yr old's first rifle.

Before you jump off realize 2019 was pretty much the last good year for all automobiles. Post 2020 they all suck in one big way or another.

Throat cleared and rant over...I think what you are looking for is a mid size SUV and have a preference for a premium/luxury one.

In no particular order

LX 600
GX550
Landcruiser
Sequoia only offered in hybrid
QX80 or Armada
QX60 or Pathfinder
Mercedes GLS or GLC
Acura MDX
Audi Q7
Lincoln Aviator or Corsair, or Nautilus
Cadillac's mid size units are all electric now
And BMW has a few mid size as well.

The point is this list is huge and options are many.

The Acura MDX has a really good mix of luxury, performance, and old-school powertrain.
The costs on this list range from $130,000 or so down to $50,000 or so.

I would definitely drive an X5M before you buy something if you can afford a fully loaded Defender. Or at least an X5 M60i. Would also look at the Cayenne S and Audi SQ7 or SQ8. Buy something that's German and fast.

If that's not your style then I agree with LX600, GX550, and Landcruiser as your best options.

Probably. But minivan recs are a long-standing Auto Board tradition. Especially for people who don't want them.

I agree and personally I'd go for the Macan GTS if I was in this situation. But I thought it might be too small. Great option though, been several years since I've driven a Macan but it kind of felt like a lifted 911.

As you can see, you are going to get a wide variety of options unless you can narrow down why you are looking at because of the first 2 options you mentioned.

Is it just because you see them as luxury options and want another luxury vehicle?
Do you mentino the defender because you are thinking of shifting to an off road capable vehicle?

Outside of a few examples, high luxury and offroad capable generally don't go together. The suspension alone makes it oil and water.

The Turbo GT is effectively the same shape in a Cayenne size. The Macan is too small and under powered if someone can afford a higher trim Cayenne. With a tune, you're running the quarter mile in low 10s and can hug corners with most sports cars...in an SUV.

Turbo GT is top of the list to replace my 958 Cayenne Turbo S once they depreciate more.

yeah, what i really meant was the macan in either S or GTS form. forget the 4cyl versions.

it is small, sure, but it's a perfectly fine 4 seater. decent cargo space.

I rented a 2020 Macan S with the 3L turbo V6 in the fall to drive part of the Blue Ridge Parkway in NC. It's was disappointing. Slow, significantly worse in corners than my Cayenne (partially due to the Chinglong tires I didn't want to push), and the PDK wasn't as crisp as my BMW's DCT. Maybe a Macan "turbo" is better, but I wasn't impressed with performance or build quality.

Coming from a modded, former top of the line, Cayenne it wasn't a fair comparison, but the Macan felt like more like a cheap toy car compared to Cayenne.

i might have S and Turbo mixed up, but i drove a 2021 turbo recently and i thought it was awesome. lots of power, nimble, great exhaust sound.

Go look at the new Cadillac SUVs. Friend of mine got one not too long ago. They are really nice.

Reality check. You basically are just getting a list of everyone's favorite or dream cars with that kind of op.

Truth is you need to research yourself in the range and styles you like/want. Then go drive a bunch of options.

Just kind of went through this switching to an suv from a sedan after years. Drove a bunch. Complete pain in the ass. But i was shocked how many options that I thought I would like had something about them I hated or were missing something important to me. Missing as in it just wasn't even an option.

IMO with the way today's vehicles have declined I'd stick with Toyota/Lexus. Yes, they aren't the same quality as a decade ago, but they at least retain their value and they are still better made than the rest imo.
