I just found out my old OBDII scanner will not talk to our new Traverse (check engine light at 450 miles). I wanted to see what it had before taking it to the dealer.

What is everyone using in terms of a scanner these days? Thanks in advance.

No idea if it supports your car but I have been using a bluetooth obd2 scanner and the "car scanner" app on my phone for at least a decade and I have never found a car it couldn't read.

Thanks. Yeah, I actually have a ELM327 Bluetooth and Torque Pro and a Innova handheld. Apparently they don't talk the new GM CAN-FD protocol or support the new GM Global B network architecture. Crazy. I can't believe they have managed to screw up an interface that has been around for 30 years.

You're going to need a new scanner to access the new protocols.

How much do you want to spend? My prosumer scanner is a 5yr old Thinktool Pros. Generally does the same stuff the factory tools can do, and prices on consumer tablet versions have really come down. Outside of my GTO, I only have to pull OEM scanners out for module programming.
