My son was very interested in working on a project vehicle. His school is setup for project based learning so he is going to get started on this in school and continue at home over the summer when he's not working. This pushed us towards a dirt bike for space reasons at home.

I was able to find a 1970 Honda SL100 project bike. The engine turns over and sounds like it has compression. He and I will both be learning as we go…I don't have any experience on motorcycles.

Im excited to see how he does. Hopefully we can diagnose and get things running.

Thats freaking awesome. Please post progress photos and videos. I love motorcycles and love to ride. Wish we had a motorcycle forum in addition to the auto board.

Will do. He's going to have to document for his school and told him that it would be cool to record/remember this. He's going to keep it red with the classic decals. Not sure how hard it is to retitle it but he wants to add all the necessary lights and plate holder so it can be street legal.

Keep it in the garage. I had a little Kawasaki KE-100 that apparently was a little too easy to load up and abscond with.

If in TX, titling isn't that difficult. I've titled several CT70's and you begin the process getting a surety bond. Registering it might be more difficult. I'm still not clear what the requirement is, but you'll need to get liability insurance. You'll really need to look into drivers license requirements, as you made need one to insure it. Been awhile since I did it.

For a 1970, all you need is a headlight and tail/break light. Turn signals were not required in 1970 and I don't think a 70 SL100 came w/ them...
