I'm back on my Geo Tracker bull**** after the last one I tried to buy fell through.

The one I'm currently looking at has a two inch lift. I think it looks kinda ridiculous/top heavy. My options would be getting bigger tires or removing the lift kit

Do you think removing the lift kit would be a pain in the ass? I could go with bigger tires but that tends to be tricky with Trackers and can really throw the speedometer off.

In that case, slightly bigger tires. I''d say a good 25% of trucks and real jeeps on the road are a few percent off on the Spedometer due to tire size changes. No big deal. Much less work and you only need a moderate size increase to fill out the wheel well a little better.

Rear lift is probably just blocks or shackles but the front might be more complex to undo if it is IFS and there are aftermarket arms. If it is solid axle with springs then not so bad, but I can't remember what those are.

Body lift would be relatively easy to remove. If its a suspension lift you'll need different components to swap out with the current ones. That will be much more tricky finding everything you need.

Most likely that is either a body lift (super easy to remove) or front shackles/rear blocks suspension lift (also super easy to remove). But the "right" fix is a couple more inches of lift in the form of body plus lift springs&shackles, crossover steering, Toyota axles with 5.29 gears and lockers, 35s and fender trimming to fit said 35s

Edit: didn't realize those had coils all around, thought they were like sammys. If suspension lift is most likely spacers/pucks. Also very easy to remove. 31x9.5 mfg mt would prob look pretty good on that rig as-is

This one's got a manual transmission, way less miles, and isn't red

Sure, it's the lift that makes it look ridiculous.

Lift that little monster to Bolivian. It's already an absurdly awesome little car. Go big!

Hell yeah!

I say lean in to it with bigger tires. How are you planning on using this thing? Surely it can't go much higher than the speed limit of many interstates, so how important is an accurate speedometer, really?

I vote for big ass BFG KO3s. Wouldn't worry too much about the speedo, ride around a bit looking at your actual speed on Waze and you'll mentally adjust quickly.

Bonus if you put the white letters out to increase the loudness.

Found an example on a Sidekick, internet is great:

That Geo reminds me of caravanning home to Houston after a west Texas camping trip in the mid-90s behind a friend and his dad driving a late model Suzuki Samurai. It had a 0-60 @ 19secs. On flat ground they could go 60mph but every time they hit a hill they'd slow down to 50 or less, then speed back up to 65 on the downhill just in time to slow again. It made for a long, if amusing, drive.

Never seen one of these but now I have to know the story behind buying one. Is this a nostalgia play?

I have an '87 Samurai and it tops out about 55 with a favorable wind and level terrain. Getting passed and blown around by 18-wheelers on the interstate is bit of a white knuckle experience. Great for offroad and short errands around town, but will not be hitting the interstate with it again.

I've never owned one personally. They were the weird sibling to the Geo Metro and essentially a rebadged Suzuki Samurai sold by GM. From 88 to the late 90s they were sold under the Geo name and then switched to Chevy in like 1998. They Chevy models had a slightly different body style and interiors that matched stand chevy truck products of that era.

They came in two door 2x4 or 4x4 with both models offering auto or 5 speed transmissions with some later models being a larger platform 4 door model. The back seats could be easily folded up and removed making a tiny truck bed. Most were convertibles with soft or hard top options. Overall a pretty basic little grocery getter that was marketed to an early 20's demographic. They were pretty cheap too at about $10K.

People have now discovered they are pretty customizable and make a tidy little off road vehicle. Basically a step up from a UTV side by side. There's also a segment that pumps them full of speakers for more of a beach or street vibe.

I just thought it would be a fun little car to tool around with.

I'm trying to decide what would have to go wrong in my life that I would go to El Paso to retrieve a Geo Tracker I purchased.

My vote goes to bigger tires. Even dropping the lift I think those tires look puny.

I really want one with ridiculous paint job or decals. Maybe something like this

Slight tangent - did anyone here ever own the Isuzu Trooper? I wanted one so bad when I was turning 16 in 2001.

My first car was a 1988 Isuzu Trooper 5speed with 2-tone paint. It was awesome. Torquey, big 4-cylinder, low gearing - couldn't get it stuck.

My truck's speedo doesn't work. I just go the same speed as everyone else or listen to the engine whine as it doesn't have an overdrive. You can kinda feel how fast you are going. I need to increase the size of my tires just to add a few mph to the top end.

Nothing to add but don't take the lift off and just get bigger tires. Guy we used to share a deer lease with had one of these on 33s and that thing could get anywhere and always get home.

LS swap to weigh it back down to the right height.

It's like the AB doesn't even try any more.
