My oldest just graduated from A&M and we are going to transfer the title of his car to him. Should we transfer title and registration or just title? If title and registration is in his name can he still be on our family insurance policy if he still resides in our home?

One form will handle Texas title and registration. Yes, you can insure the vehicle even if he doesn't live with you.

What is the advantage of doing this? I've asked a lawyer about this. They told me if you are still paying, it doesn't really distance you from liability.

So we decided to transfer title and registration to our son. In July he will be moving out of state for his job and he will need to be able to register it and get it insured where he will be living so he will be on his own insurance policy there. Since the car is going with him we figured he needs all of the things in his name since we won't be there.

Transfer it as a gift of course

We did transfer it to him as a gift. Seemed like a perfect graduation gift to give him the title of the car he has driven the last 6 years.
