I'm seriously considering trading in my truck and taking a chance on Ram for the first time ever. I've heard good things about their inline 6 hurricane engine, but I really would like to get a V8.

Not trying to make this a Ram vs. competition thread, just wanted to see if anyone has any experience with their new V8 and/or eTorque.

I'm not really interested in the GM options has I have heard about way too many problems. I'm not super interested in the Ford 5.0 because I have driven Ford for the last 11-12 years, and kind of just want a change.

I own a '26 Ram with the Hurricane. I drove a 26 Hemi with the etorque for about a month. I'm really glad I don't own one.

The Hurricane motor is smoother, makes better power, and delivers it better. And it's more fuel efficient.

The Hemi sounds amazing. Seriously, whoever designed the exhaust for it deserves an award. Best stock exhaust I've ever heard. But after that, it's no contest. It runs rougher. It's slower to respond. And because of the regenerative braking of the etorque system, the brake response is maddeningly inconsistent. Sometimes you touch the pedal and the brakes clamp down, sometimes you deliver a solid push on the pedal and the brakes barely perform a normal stop. I had the same experience on two Hemi Rams, so it wasn't just the one truck.

It made me very glad that I bought the Hurricane.

My only concern with the hurricane is long term reliability. I feel like the Hemi is tried and true, although not as powerful as the Hurricane.

I think the announcement today is the 700 plus HP Rumble Bee. But if they announce updates to the hemi making it more powerful, I may wait it out. Although I never like buying engines in their first year.

10 year powertrain warranty on the Hurricane was enough to alleviate my fears.

I have a 2023 Hemi Etorque. 62K and no issues or braking experiences anything like the poster above mentioned.

I turn off DFM every time I drive it. To me, it just runs like a normal hemi. Tows fine with the 3.92. Yeah its not the beast it once was and newer tech is out there in other brands.

I have driven the Hurricane and think its a fantastic engine. But that was just a week long rental in a Wagoneer.

Rumors that the 2027 will offer a Hemi w/o the Etorque. Ram will probably charge a premium for it.

I'm at the dealership now and just test drove the V8. I was thinking it would feel under powered since it has less HP and torque than my F150 with the 3.5 but it didn't. I was kind of hoping I didn't like it… now I'm looking at numbers…

Just put the 392 in the G/T Ram for a reasonable price, this is not hard.

Get an online quote from Carvana's Dodge dealership in Dallas and ask the locals to match or beat it.

I'm not leaving with a new truck today. Really just wanted to test drive and then get a few dealers to compete against each other. I'll have a deal in place before I pull up to the dealer. And if they change one thing, I walk.

100%. I completely agree as someone who's bought a truck from Mark Dodge and will again in the future.

Can someone provide his contact? This isn't the old A&M linebacker is it?

Haha, nope. That's the name of the dealer. GM's name is Aaron Ginsburgh. (337) 474-2640

They move pretty quick. Right off the bat, offered $3k more for my trade and this truck has more options than the one I looked at yesterday for about 3-4k less.

maverick2076: Howdy, I am also the proud owner of a 2026 RAM Tungsten with the Hurricane, had for 3 months and Really Like It. I LOVE the Tungsten interior, as one car mag review said it is Mercedes inside, and that is so true. As an Old, it took me about a month to really understand and setup all of the enormous amount of electronic setting in the vehicle! I can remember the old days, get in, depress the clutch, turn key, start engine, put in gear, release the clutch. That is all there was to it, not 100 different setting for everything. That said, I Love the truck!

Edit to add: Probably will not outlive the powertrain warranty.

I bought a 24 Laramie 1500 in Oct '23. Mine has the eTorque with the 5.7 Hemi. 75k miles and no problems with it so far. A 10 year 100k warranty would also be enough for me to not worry about short-term problems, because regardless it'll be taken care of. I'm not familiar with the changes from 24 to 26, but that's my experience.

I will also 2nd/3rd/4th the Mark Dodge recommendation. I will never buy another vehicle from anyone else as long as I stay in the RAM family. They took my trade in via pics, offered me slightly over KBB for it, and then drove to my office in Houston to swap vehicles with my new one. They do this for free within a 250 mile radius. Not to mention the great deals they have anyways, I got mine for 18k off MSRP. Best experience I've had.

Good luck! I've had always great luck with my last 5 Rams or so

I cant say on the new ones, but rams with e-torque are completely effed when the bearings in the electric motor like to seize up (which is fixable) or if the sensor in it dies (complete replacement). No replacement parts for several months while your truck gets to sit wherever you towed it, even if the warranty covers it eventually.

Well hopefully I won't have that issue because I just pulled the trigger on a Ram w/ the hemi tonight. Went thru Mark Dodge. Very simple process. I did get the 5 year 75k bumper to bumper warranty instead of just the 3 year 36k. Also comes with the 10 year 100k powertrain warranty.

I added power running boards so I'm guessing it will be ready sometime next week. I'll probably have to drive to Tyler to meet them because I'm on the northwest side of the metroplex exceeding 250 miles.

I've had a 2026 1500 Laramie w/Hemi since December and love it. No braking issues like described above and agree with the comment about the exhaust note. I think you're going to really enjoy it.

It's the most comfortable vehicle I've ever owned. Not joking.

Well dang AgsWin, i was coming in here to give my 2nd/3rd/4th/5th recommendation for Mark Dodge.
I ordered my Ram through them back in early 2022 and got the Hemi without e-torque. I had a great, no-hassle experience. Got a good offer on my trade-in after sending them a few pics, then drove it to Lake Charles and picked up my truck. They didn't even look at my car in person. Loving my truck so far!

My work truck is Etorque rental. Drove #1 for just over a year. About 2 months ago I was in stop and go traffic in Dallas right where 75 and 45 merge (like right at the merge). I did have the auto shutoff turned off. Out of the blue, the engine just died. Well as a "safety" feature, it the motor dies, the parking brake automatically kicks in. At this merge, 75 is often at a standstill and 45 is doing about 35-45. So I am frantically trying to get in Park, and figure out how to get tie parking brake off (never messed with it before that moment). Get the motor restarted, surprise, limp mode. Nothing like trying to cut across 3 lanes of traffic at 30 mph. Up to that point, I loved that truck. I shipped if off the next day......and they brought me another one.

This is a known potential issue with this truck

I've had a '22 Laramie Longhorn with Hemi w/eT for less than 4 years.
130k miles
It's my daily driver plus my ranch truck and I tow small cattle trailers and small loads of hay (4-5 round bales).
Zero issues. Love the truck.

I like the idea of the Hurricane but I tend to put a LOT of miles on trucks and turbos fail. The inline 6 is a good torquey design but I don't trust turbos, especially seeing all the issues Ford and Toyota have had with turbo trucks once they get into the miles. Give me an old V8 any day. Biggest screwup Toyota made was dumping that old V8. They should have kept it and just tweaked it a little to improve fuel economy. The reliability was unbeatable.

+1 here for the Ram Hemi or Ford Coyote
I also used to have GMC with 5.3. Was good until developed a crack on block at about 120k miles. That's when I dumped it for the Ram.

Picking up my truck tomorrow. I'll report back with photos and of course a Rule 1 dedication since I only get to do that once every 5-6 years.

No, I really wanted the dark blue forged metallic, but I settled for the granite metallic because it had the options I wanted. That was my second color choice anyway.
