When you buy a vehicle in Texas. The dealer will issue metal plates in your name at time of sale.

When they have the title in hand and filled out with all the forms signed as well, they will scan those docs to their local tax office and pay the sales taxes & fees. Once the tax office reviews the scans and approves the paperwork they ACH the dealers bank account for the sales tax and fees. After that happens, a few days later the dealer has the privilege of driving to the tax office and picking up your sticker and then mailing it to you.

This is one way it's done, there may be other ways but the above is how I do it.

I was under the impression that the dealership electronically submitted the application for both the title and registration simultaneously via webdealer to both the local tax office and the DMV. Are you saying they have to apply for the title, receive it, then submit proof of that along with forms to get the sticker?

The dealers must "surrender" the title with the previous owners name when they scan it to the tax office. This triggers a new title to be issued to the owner or their bank, and you get a sticker a couple weeks later and a title a couple weeks after that in the mail.

1st step is getting metal plates, which is the easy step.

Then it's scan time and pray it does not get rejected for some

I have to assign plates in web dealer when the car is sold. So multiple times a day.
