I am curious how many on here listen to it. I have been for months and search and most threads about him are on here. I am not sure if we can discuss certain podcast, but his stuff on exercise, energy, and focus are awesome and trying to learn more.

After listening to the ice bath one I tried to take one at home. Coldest tap water plus all the ice in my house got it down to 76*

They are a lot of info but they always have useful bits

Crazy. I want to do that. I try cold showers after working out in morning but in SA the pipes are too hot. I follow the no caffeine for 90-120 minutes. Try to get 5-10 mins of sunlight in morning. I do workouts with sauna but he does say infrared doesn't get hot enough.

I listen to some of them. I really enjoyed the one he had with Andy Galpin a while back and made a post on here regarding it.

I try to do the sunlight in the am thing but am pretty bad about it. My dog passed away last year and my sleep hasn't been the same since. After listening to him, I think missing the morning and evening walks for the low-light exposure might be the culprit.

Funny enough, I started the morning walks around 6:45am each morning and drink no caffeine nor answer emails until 8:30am a few weeks ago and it has helped my mental clarity in the mornings. Definitely makes me more focused if anything.

Glad you posted this. I saw a reference to Huberman on the Magnesium thread but didn't know who he was. Will check out his podcast.

Edit: Started listening this AM. I already walk my dog for 45 minutes every morning and get morning sunlight and exercise so I guess that is a good start.

I dig it, but wish some of the pods were a little more condensed/focused. Maybe I need his pod on ADHD to help me get over that.

If you like Huberman then I suggest you check out Dr. Peter Attia's podcast and website. Podcast is called the Peter Attia Drive. Very smart guy who has a full research team to help produce content

Recommend listening at 1.5x speed. Your mind adapts to it quickly and it opens time to consume more stuff.

I subscribe to Peter Attia's Podcast and just found Huberman. It's interesting in that they share a lot of the same sources and the same education (Hopkins, Stanford). I would say that Attia's Podcast is much more in-depth. I have plenty of education to be able to understand what he is saying (even though most of it is from 35 - 40 years ago on the biochemistry side) but, frankly, can get lost in it at times. I would consider him an uber nerd. I'm going through the Huberman Podcast's interview of Attia now, and you can get a flavor for the two different styles. Both great sources of information, just different styles.

40 mins in the Huberman/Attia cast and loving it. Like the concept of backcasting and planning for the last decade. I will be subscribing to his alsoo

I just listened to the one about alcohol. I think it's a must-listen for anyone who wants to drink less or possibly cut alcohol out completely.

I took enough biology in college that I know about all of the detrimental/toxic effects on cells and cell metabolism. What I didn't know (or had forgotten) is just how low of a dose is toxic.

For all of the people worried about eating organic and non-GMO and avoiding plastic water bottles and contamination of trace heavy metals, none of that has the detrimental effect on our bodies and health that alcohol does.

We are distracted from the real problem and have demonized all these other false flags that aren't even comparable to alcohol and the damage it does to our bodies and health.

Awesome. I will look it up. I don't drink much, but work events add to it a lot. Been trying to reduce it quite a bit.

So, I wouldn't have said I drink much, either…until I listened to this podcast.

He talks a lot about 1 drink per day. And my first thought was "Pshhhttt…I don't drink every day!" But once or twice a month I'll have 3-4 drinks 2x in one week - which is the equivalent of one drink per day. And that's enough to cause damage.

Not to mention I feel like crap after more than 2 drinks. But that doesn't seem to stop me.

I've gone without for long periods of time, but I have really over-indulged this summer. This podcast really helped put things back into perspective for me.

I'm gonna have to catch that one. I'm always teetering with disciplined health and fitness then to just go off the rails like I did this past weekend. I'm really curious how much damage I did this weekend. Football season is just around the corner and it's difficult not to partake at tailgates and game watching with a few.

This is where I am. Alcohol just does NOT fit with my health and fitness goals. Yet I continue to drink.

I had about 4 glasses of wine on Saturday. The last one was red wine, which I know bothers me more than white. I slept terrible that night, had a massive headache all day Sunday, and just generally felt miserable until I went to bed Sunday night. I absolutely know better, but I did it anyway.

I need to get back to having 1-2 glasses at most 1-2x per month. I've done it before, so I know it's possible, I've just lost my discipline.

Although what about red wine? I thought it was supposed to be good for your heart?
TXTransplant
How long do you want to ignore this user?
The podcast debunks that myth. The amount of wine you'd have to drink to to get enough of any of the other components (ie, resveratrol) that ~might~ be beneficial to your heart is ridiculously high. Huber man does a fantastic job explaining the science behind why there is really no safe or "healthy" amount of alcohol. Your body doesn't need it. Period. Any amount consumed is basically poison with no nutritional or health benefits. Your body can't even really use the alcohol that gets converted to sugar for energy.

Red wine gives me a terrible headache. Not sure if it's specifically the preservatives or the tannins or something else from the grapes. It affects a lot of people that way.

While alcohol is the main cause of hangovers, certain other components found specific types of alcohol (brandy, red wine, gin, etc) are known to make hangovers worse. Podcast talks about that, too.

Just heard the alcohol one. I would recommend the one on sleep with Dr Walker. I haven't heard it but I saw Walker on JRE and then bought his book. Ive prioritized sleep ever since

Can you expand on this? I love a drink or two in the evening to wind down even though I know it's bad for me. I know nothing about THC. Seems there are stores everywhere but no idea of legitimacy of such places. I'd like to try it, but am severely lacking education on the subject. Any negative effects of THC, particularly on sleep?

The body high I get from THC- especially the delta-8 kind that is technically "legal" here in Texas- I find much more pleasant than alcohol, without the headache hangover the next day, and it doesn't interfere with my ability to be active and do workouts the next day either.

I just use edibles. There are several online retailers that are much more reliable than stores that also sell the stuff (with the exception of CBD ZAR which has locations around Texas- veteran owned and run and their stuff does seem legit). 3Chi, Goomies Gummies, Hometown Hero, Moonwlkr and Harbor City Hemp are just a few longtime trusted online retailers for the delta 8 stuff

You're in luck. Ep 92 is all about marijuana.

Spoiler alert - it's not good for you either.

Pretty sure it's not good for sleep.
If I recall correctly it's similar to alcohol in that it makes you sleepy but you don't hit deep REM sleep for as long as if you were sober.
lazuras_dc

Yes Dr. Matt Walker shows THC interferes with REM. Although if you're comparing to alcohol use, I imagine THC to be less detrimental overall.
