Anyone here done one of these? I'm thinking about doing one to help with inflammation and energy levels. I really can't see any negatives of giving it a whirl but also don't want to invest too terribly much in to it.

Any one have any lessons learned? Making one out of a chest freezer seems like the best route and really simple. TIA.

I have a client that has a bunch of water bottles in his deep freeze. He throws them into his big tub and jumps in when it has cooled off enough. Then he puts the bottles back into the freezer.

This would be the cheapest way to test before spending money to build one.

While that is certainly an option, I want to do this daily first thing in the morning and I dont think ill be able to make myself do a whole production to do a cold plunge.

Tell me you regularly listen to JRE without telling me you regularly listen to JRE.

Not a regular listener but definitely trying to find a way to lower inflammation, like by seeing a rheumatologist on Monday.

Have you tried an elimination diet to see what foods may trigger it?

I get a throbbing IT band pain within half an hour of eating sugar.

No but it is really hard to control my eating at work where I am completely subject to someone else's menu. I could do it, but I'm not quite there yet. Would basically mean eating nothing but rice.

I have an ice machine at work and will periodically bring a couple hundred pounds of ice home. I will say I sleep so deep after doing one of these at about 7pm. I do it in the big tub in our bathroom. Thinking about getting one of those 100 gallon rubber maid tubs and keeping it in the garage so I'm not wasting as much water. I'd like to do it more often but only do it once or twice a week since it takes effort. I think if i had the freezer I'd do it more. FYI the first minute sucks. Once you get past that the next couple aren't too bad.

Thanks for posting. I just had a conversation of building one this way.

I just got back from port a this weekend and we did a cold plunge on the beach in an oversized cooler with ice water. Obviously we weren't doing it for dopamine release but everyone enjoyed a few seconds from the heat!

I'm in the process of building a stock tank cold plunge. Just trying to figure out which chiller I want to use.

Perhaps, but also just as likely something you aren't eating as it is something you are.

I may be soft, but I broke my foot in college and sprained my other ankle in grad school almost 20 years ago. Those two injuries burned like fire the few times I've done a plunge. Do I just have to stick it out until those extremities go numb?

I'm with you. I'd rather give birth than jump into icewater.

Cold plunging has been a game changer for my knees. I've torn both ACLs and they swell up after running. The cold really helps reduce the inflammation and discomfort.

I pay $200 a month for unlimited infrared sauna and cold plunging at our local Cryofit and I usually do them back to back. Doing it every day brings the cost down below $10 a visit which is hard to beat. I know a guy that was doing it at home with ice and was spending $15 or so every single time; not to mention the time involved.

I'm with you, too, but I don't think that sensation is related to those old injuries. That's just how it feels on extremities.

Nothing to indicate it on bloodwork unfortunately, so no real idea.
