Need a cough syrup for a dry cough.

Have you tried honey? Just a teaspoonful every hour or 2 as needed? Studies show it's about as good or better than most cough medicines, short of codeine containing cough syrups.

Though if you had a recent URI that was viral, you probably have upper airway cough syndrome/post viral cough. This is just natural inflammation that needs to die down over the course of a few weeks. If it's particularly worrisome, or bothersome, some docs will prescribe a short course of steroids (inhaled or systemic). But I would generally avoid unnecessary steroids.
