I've had more than one doctor tell me I'm pre diabetic.

I would rather avoid medicine so I'm looking to see if diet and exercise solved it for any diagnosed as pre diabetic.

I am considered pre-diabetic as well and was put on metformin a couple of years ago.

Last year I decided to get better about a low carb diet with exercise like they told me I needed, and my numbers improved enough that they didn't prescribe it again.

It's a struggle for me, but if I want to avoid the meds I'm gonna have to suck it up by eating low carb and exercise regularly.

thanks that's what I want to do. Did you use a dietician or you did it yourself?

Low carb diet for 3 months. Go back and check your bloodwork again. 90% chance you will no longer be prediabetic. Then, going forward, gradually increase your carbs and just see where your sweet spot is.

Proper diet and exercise will almost certainly keep it in check. I'm always harping on this with my patients. Some listen, some don't. I'd start by browsing the American Diabetes Association website in their nutrition section and go from there. Not the end all be all, but is a good foundation.

Diet and exercise are your main focus. However, as I suspect given your age based on what I take as your class year, watch out for medications which can cause medication induced diabetes or glucose spikes. Many of these are related to blood pressure, arthritis, etc. (you know those things that come with aging), e.g., prednisone or a cortisone shot could send your blood sugar into dangerous levels.

Get a Continuous Glucose Monitor. You will be able to quickly figure out what spikes your blood sugar. Carbs are an issue for some, not as much for others.
