It was more like 5-6 weeks for me and it's still lingering a bit but it's mostly gone now. I never felt bad or had any other symptoms, but it was very annoying and messed with my sleep quite a bit for a week or two (hard to sleep well when you're coughing every 30 seconds). I'd occasionally go into a coughing fit that had me almost vomiting.

Cough drops helped the most. I'm thankful that it's mostly gone now. I blame China and the Democrats. ; )

Likely either RSV or Human Metapneumovirus which are clinically identical. Nothing new and not very scary unless you are under 1, over 60, or have chronic respiratory issues.

I posted this in the thread about but curious what you think too.

I am going on 2.5 weeks of it now. when it started I had mild fever and body aches.

then 2 weeks of just nasty cough and phlegm.

cough has been dissipating but then last night it came back with a fury. Also had fever and body aches throughout the night.

couple people in the thread above said they had the same type of relapse so that made me feel better.

About 8 days now, sore throat and fever early, then mostly cold-like symptoms. Those persist, producing a lot of green crud, and now the cough is ramping up the last 2-3 days.

Sounds like mycoplasma bronchitis, I would get seen at a local express type facility if you don't have a PCP.

This was diagnosed as Covid in my household earlier this week. Basically the exact same symptoms.

It's not uncommon for viral infections to cause inflammation in the lungs and upper respiratory tract that takes weeks to subside. Usually it's 1-2 weeks, but 6 weeks is not uncommon. Occasionally it'll go out to 8 weeks. Antibiotics won't fix this. I say this because it's not uncommon for patients to demand antibiotics because another doctor gave it to them last time it happened and it got better. What they don't realize is that the cough was getting better on its own, and would have gotten better regardless.

In some cases steroids might, but steroids aren't without their own side effects. In rare cases you might actually have a secondary lung bacterial infection like mycoplasma (or another "walking pneumonia") that KidDoc mentioned. That's not that common. But you shouldn't take antibiotics unless the doctor sees something on the imaging. It's also not uncommon for someone to go to an urgent care with someone that isn't very good at reading xrays, looking at an xray on a crappy screen, and pointing randomly stating "oh yeah, there's some fluid here, and there and some inflammation, and it could be infected... here's some antibiotics."

Antibiotic resistance is real, and getting worse.

tl;dr - your body has likely cleared the infection, and is now dealing with the inflammation left over from fighting it of. Should resolve within 6 weeks or less. Symptomatic control with cough drops and sudafed. If it's really bad a doc may give a short course of steroids. Unless they can definitively see an infection on chest xray, decline antibiotics.

Glad I'm not alone. I tested positive for Covid about 3.5-4 weeks ago, I've got bad asthma and this go around (3rd time that I know) has been hell. I've got the worst cough I've ever had. Went to the doc multiple times, was sent to the ER, and now been to a pulmonologist. Cleared up for 2-3 days and then came back over thanksgiving. It's been literal hell on my asthma.

Finished a 10 day course of antibiotics and now I'm doing a 14 day course.

Who prescribed the antibiotics and what are they treating? Have they done steroids for you yet? Which antibiotic are they using?

Yes, did a 9 day course of Prednisone and Augmentin. Using my nebulizer as needed (been every damn day for almost a month it feels like) and inhaler as needed. Other daily drugs I take as well to help with asthma. Elipto being one and a boss spray. That was a family practice doc.

Pulmonologist prescribed this current dose of Augmentin cause I feel like the nasal drip from my supposed sinus infection after Covid has come back again.

My wife and daughter both had this nasty thing! It lasted 4 weeks for both of them!
It started out with a minor scratchy/dry throat the first few days then progressed to a dry cough for a week or so, then 2-3 weeks of deep/wet cough and a mild congestion. She was getting so annoyed with it and actually began accepting that this bug was going to be with her the rest of her life!
She frequently reads the Taiwan news and has been hearing that something very similar has been making the rounds in China and Taiwan. She is from TW, so of course she totally blames this on China! (probably not far from the truth!)

I feel her pain. I'm heading into week 4 and it's hard to picture normalcy ever returning. My breathing is so bad too.

I've had a 4+ week cough a couple of time before. It sucks but just have to ride it out.

All of November for me. Never ran a fever, never went to the doctor. Coughed up blood for a few days (not bad, but still concerning when it happens). Finally got my voice back at the end of last week. Still coughing intermittintly. I have to get it all out in the morning. There were several times where I almost threw up coughing so hard. I can't remember ever doing that before. Its a beech, but I never really felt bad other than my abs hurting so much from coughing so hard and so much.

Mucinex seemed to work the best for me.

I had RSV in January 2021 and I was coughing so hard I separated cartilage in my ribs. I can't ever remember coughing that hard. So not scary, but definitely no fun either.

I had a cough for three or four weeks earlier this fall with limited other symptoms. There is nothing really to do about it, just gotta get through it. Luckily, it does eventually go away (even though it feels like it never will).

See your doc likely need some nebulizers and/or inhalers.

I think I got this too. Had a very mild 2 days of feeling a bit under the weather, with some congestion, and then started developing a lot of cough. Sudafed is helping a little, but, not much.

I had a 5-6 week cough in July. Definitely blew big time. Had to travel internationally during that spell too.
Sorry man. Hope you recover quick.

Both of my teenagers are dealing with a very nagging sore throat, cough. They feel terrible in the morning. Better as the day goes by, and almost like nothing is wrong in the afternoon, evening. Repeat over and over.
Any ideas?

Nasal flushes, nyquil/dayquil, consider urgent care to examine for mycoplasma bronchitis.
