I just purchased my 3rd bike to get back into shape, a cannondale quick 1, which fits me way better than the giant and specialized bikes I've previously had, but I want a big ass cushioned seat so I don't give up so easily this time bc of ass pain. Any recs for comfy nerdy thick seats? Thanks?

You should change your dating lifestyle if your ass hurts.

I know it sounds counter intuitive, but you don't really want to have a big, cushioned saddle. You just have to ride more until you get used to it. A bigger saddle will just offer more places to rub (maybe the backs of your legs) and you are actually just prolonging the misery with a larger saddle. All new riders feel this way, similar to how they feel more comfortable with toe clips but then realize clipless pedals make more sense. Hang in there, it just takes some repetition.

A decent pair of bike shorts will also help if you're not wearing those.

Get a proper fit where you can try out a few seats. My road bike and tri bike had different style seats. As mentioned, a big cushioned seat is the opposite of what you want

Good bike pants in all their dorky glory make a huge difference too.

Definitely go get fitted for the saddle.

And when people say 'good' or 'decent' bike shorts they mean don't spare the $$.

Also, if you're concerned bike shorts won't effectively hide your thunder, you can get mountain bike shorts which have the padded liner built in

Get a Selle Anatomica leather saddle

Complete game changer for me. No sore a** or need for padded bike shorts.

Thanks for the advice against the cushioned saddle, but I agree it seems so counterintuitive! Not sure why this seat bothers me so much more than my others but I have put on some LBs and it's been 2-3 years since I've been a frequent rider. Do you think maybe a small gell seat cover would help specific to my model of seat will help, or should I just ride this out?

And the cycle shop guy said the shorts are a must, I already have some on order, never needed them
Before but getting old and fat sucks :/

The factory seat that came with it is probably the wrong one for you. Do change it out. Don't jump to a big cushy gel one.

Angle of the tip of the saddle matters. Tipping the nose up a bit during a bike fit can encourage your sit bones to sit back into the saddle.

As others have said. Bike fit. Try multiple saddles. Bike shorts. I like my ISM saddle.

Go to a bike shop that can do a bike fit including measuring the width of your sit bones. Then buy a saddle that matches that width. If you bought the new bike from a local shop, most of them will include a basic fit with the sale and might even swap in a new saddle for you if the fit suggests a different one is more suited. I would talk to who you bought it from and see if they will do that for you.

And I agree with everyone above, the padded shorts and more minimalist saddle will do a lot more to help you than a wide soft saddle or cushy gel pad.

Where's that GiF or meme of the guy trying bike saddles at Walmart…always cracked me up!

I used to do 25+ mile rides on the regular with 50+ mile and even a few 80+ mile rides in there too. Never did a full Century ride yet, but it's still on my list.

Bike shorts and vaseline. Vaseline is your friend. And it still hurts. Also will want to shave your taint and anything else hairy back there. Inside the butt cheeks too. I had a colonoscopy and the doc was asking me about being hairy all over but a totally clean shaven backside. Quite the awkward convo.

There was a razor in my shower you did not want to use.

I know I did the laughing emoji, but I'm serious.

Also: I am not the only one.

Also, if you want to get really fancy for the non-greasy option:

I'd be careful about how vaseline interacts with the chamois material in bike shorts. I use DZ Nuts chamois cream and it works fine.

I will use it now for the name alone.

Brand is owned by former time trial champion David Zabriskie. Great brand name for the target market.

Thanks guys… it really did just take a few weeks to get used to it. This bike actually came with a mildly padded saddle with a hole in it, which I adjusted to much easier than older models, which came with hard saddles.

I've ordered a few bike shorts several sizes up
And they're all too small… I ordered a selle leather but it's on back order sever weeks. Getting fit to the bike and buying the right sized frame made all the difference this time, I believe.
