Anyone been treated for a kidney stone using shock wave (SWL) therapy? Was is successful or any complications? Stone is 1 cm in size so just a bit too big to pass on its own.
So three conspiracy theorists walk into a bar.................You can't convince me that's a coincidence.

Just a bit? That's a bigass stone.

And yes have had lithotripsy which was unsuccessful. The first time knocked a little dust off the stone so they had to do it a second time a week or so later. They broke pieces off of the main stone and left it forked which I found out when I pissed it out later anyways. My parents have had it done and it turned their stone to sand though so YMMV.

Most of mine that were bad they had to "go fishing" with their basket tool. I personally thought wearing a stint afterwards sucks because it pinches when you piss, and if they tape it without much slack it really pinches when you are sleeping and catch a bone and will jerk your ass awake real quick. Skipped the stint one time and it wasn't any better as you still piss out blood clots that gum up the works.

Once you are clean and clear see if you can get blood and urine tested to understand why you make stones besides not enough water. I finally found a urologist who diagnosed that I release too much calcium in my urine which binds to any oxalate present. So now I'm on meds that limit how much calcium I piss out. I still monitor my oxalate consumption though.

Thanks for the reply and good advice on determining why stones are occurring. Will do that once this is taken care of.

Had an epslisode last October. Honestly think it was worse than shoulder surgery. And mine were all in mm measurements.

My doc recommended the insertion laser break up method. It was fine except for the fact that he couldn't get up the right side. Left me with two tents for 18 days. Constant pain almost worse than the stones, then went back to do the laser on the right side. Then a Stent there for a week.

Worst October in my life. It was literally hell!

Don't be shy about asking for and taking pain pills as needed.

Happen to be in Dallas? The one I went to, recommended by the first er visit was an ok doc I guess, but the office and staff sucked. After they failed to order the tests for the second time I gave up. Never got that info though he had some of it from the debris they had tested and refused to give any advice throughout the process. Guess he really needed a few more office visit charges. Really made me mad.

Nope Houston. I have had somewhere around 14-15 stones (lost count) since I was about 19 years old so been through it all. In 2020 I had 3 ER visits in December for this ***** Finally met a urologist who got me sorted out and have not had one since.

Most folks it's calcium oxalate. Some unlucky folks have genetic ones made of cysteine, and some have uric acid ones.

I can't prove cause and effect but since I started 12.5 mg of Hydrochlorthiazide once a day.....No more stones.
It is a low of a diuretic, affects renal calcium absorption.

I was on that one at first, then they bumped me to chlorthalidone. Similar concept. Now I'm dialed in.
