Remedy and treatments for gout on foot. I get it on the top of the outside portion of my left foot.

What treatments have you heard found or done that relive pain and sensitivity?

I have a prescription NSAID to take, so hopefully some pain relief.

I've always heard cherries help. From the people I know that tried it it brings relief.

Which meds are you on?

Usually something like colchicine works well. Sometimes steroids. Regular ibuprofen or naproxen isn't bad for mild symptoms.

If it's bad, I think you can combine the colchicine, ibuprofen, and tylenol as well.

Preventative meds include allopurinol and febuxostat.

Have had two pills of Indomethacin that were prescribed last night and currently sitting in an Urgent care for some more needed treatment.

If they offer a steroid pack, TAKE IT!

quickest way to knock down an excruciating flare

I keep colchicine on hand and pop one as a preventative after too much beer or shellfish

Be sure to take prednisone in the morning. Don't take after about 3pm, otherwise you will have a hard time sleeping.

Steroids take 4-6 hours to start working. But they don't provide fast relief. Their benefits build over the course of a few days.

Your NSAID - indomethacin in this case, will provide the fastest relief. Colchicine will also help a bit. Tylenol won't do as much as those, but doesn't hurt to combine it for synergistic effects.

I am feeling less pain in the foot, it's not as much point tenderness, still some swelling and stiffness but not near as much. I can walk on it almost no pain.

Glad to hear there's some relief - a little goes a long way when in full throb

I've heard that Smoking weed dulls the pain tremendously. After the acute attack is over get your doc to prescribe allopurinol in ever increasing amounts till you are at 300 mg a day. Finally if you drink alcohol, stop. Major trigger.

I had prescription naproxen I'd take back when I would get flare ups of gout. It really only flared up after a day of crappy eating and drinking a lot of beer.....so every college football season Sunday.

Lost a bunch of weight about 6 years ago and haven't had it since...knock on wood.

Losing weight is what triggered it for me ironically - threw my uric levels high

It does suck that nearly everything I enjoy could be a trigger, although I only get nailed once every few years

I better knock on wood or something….

If you get repeated attacks, get a prescription for Allopurinol. It knocks your uric acid levels down and you won't have attacks anymore. No real side effects.

I don't do anything that traditionally causes gout - don't drink a lot of beer, don't eat a lot of red meat, etc. found out it's a hereditary thing for me. I had three attacks in a year. I thought I broke my foot. I'm not on any other meds - but this is worth it. That gout stuff sucks.

I second almost all of the advice here. I've had many gout flares over the years, even some after I quit eating what I knew caused them. Found out 2 years ago that I have a naturally high uric acid level. My rheumatologist put me on two 100-mg allopurinol tabs once a day. So far, so good.

Colchicine works, but don't stray too far from a bathroom. Indomethacin works, but it made me and my dad sick. (I apparently inherited gout from him.) Prednisone works, just follow the directions for its use strictly.

Over the years I've had numerous bad Gout attacks. The doctors' say don't eat this or drink that. It doesn't help. I've followed their guidance and feel that most of them have no idea what causes Gout other than high Uric Acid. What I have found is that even the smallest amount of anything containing tomatoes will trigger an almost instant attack.

As a side note, Benjamin Franklin had both Gout and Kidney Stones. If you've never had either one, feel blessed.
