33 y/o male. Want to get in the habit of doing an annual blood test. In the past, I have done this intermittently, looking at total blood count, and a lipid panel. Would like to add a testosterone check. Anything else I should look into? Want to get a baseline and start tracking stuff annually as I get older

I did this beginning of the year when Labcorp had a bunch of their tests 40% off. I ended up getting the Male Health + Nutrient Testing done. I plan on doing this annually since I don't really have a doc I see normally. Next step would be finding a doc to review the test results with on an annual basis. Turning 40 this year.

I'd probably add A1C and PSA on

CBC , BMP, A1c , insulin , psa , advanced lipid panel atleast once to see your lp(a) and particle counts and apoB. I also would get an apoE once to know your alz risk. Thyroid levels , test , vit D all good to know also. Advanced lipid panels should include inflammation markers, like CRP and homocysteine.

If you have any family history of heart disease, I would suggest getting a Cardio IQ advanced lipid plus inflammation panel done. I wish I could have gone back in time and done this when I was 40 so I would have known how off my numbers were.

where would i get a test this comprehensive? Looks beyond the scope of LabCorp...

LabCorps actually probably does a lot of these more advanced tests. Unless it's a test being developed in a research lab, I'm pretty sure either LabCorps or Quest can handle it. You just have to know what to order.

How do you interpret fasting insulin as opposed to fasting glucose or A1C? I would imagine a fasting insulin correlated with insulin resistance, which would correlate with an elevated fasting glucose/post prandial glucose and A1C. What additional info does fasting insulin give you? What changes do you make if your fasting insulin is high?

https://www.labcorp.com/test-menu/search

You can search here and and have your physician order with the # or I believe you can just order yourself or go to Any Lab Test Now
https://www.anylabtestnow.com/test-finder/

You can do some homework to try and maximize efficiency as some panels include multiple listed tests and you dont have to order every single one individually. (ie. Cardio IQ as mentioned above)
But some will need to be ordered individually.

Its good that you are getting ahead of any health issues.

The biggest value may be a proper blood pressure check and knowing if you have any early findings of hypertension.

I would consider:
CBC, metabolic panel (CMP), hemoglobin A1c, lipid panel, Vitamin D (25-hydroxy Vit D) level

Depending on symptoms/family history:
TSH

Recommend against:
PSA (at least right now at your age)
