Have a partial tendor tear and full tendon sheath tear in my wrist.

Anyone have experience with PRP and success with it?

My doctor has put me on physical therapy, but also suggested steroid shot and potentially PRP as well.

Curious on thoughts from the crowd, TIA.

Mixed bag in my experience. I have seen it do wonders with some patients. Get someone who is very well versed in it.

Yep this is pretty much what I've heard from several docs who offer it.

Steroid shot and PRP together are a bit of a contradiction. If it's one or the other I can understand. Or there needs to be a waiting period (weeks) between steroid and PRP to be effective. Steroids stop lots of cellular activities (good and bad). PRP is intended to aid in healing which requires some of the cellular activity a steroid would stop. I'm oversimplifying but hopefully you get the idea.

No that's perfect, thank you for the explanation.

Full disclosure - he's actually mentioned, steroid shot, PRP, and stem cell replacement, all as options, and plans to talk through what those would look like, pros/cons, etc.

I'm aware of steroid shots and impact, PRP felt out of the blue as far as a possible option goes.

Just trying to figure out some background and questions to ask ahead of the consult later this week.

I would ask how long they've been doing PRP injections? How many they have done for wrist tendons specifically? what type they plan to use (google types of PRP), and do they use US guidance to insure it gets in appropriate tendon?

I've had PRP injections in my knee for a torn meniscus several times. They have done wonders for me in terms of pain, but I still have the instability of a torn meniscus. Also, what has helped is physical therapy and walking. Plus I pray a lot.

I think prp would work, but I believe it would take more than 1 round.

I've done prp for both shoulders. 1 round each. It was just too expensive to do multiple rounds for me.

I had 2 times in patellar tendon with good success. Did one in lower back recently and it hasn't helped.

Last summer I started having some pretty severe knee pain (weirdly it flared up the most after a night of heavy drinking). Looking back it was that dehydration from alcohol that was doing a number on my cartilage. Thought it was maybe gout or pseudo-gout but wasn't it after some blood work and other tests. Was pretty painful to run and even lift, which was tough. Got an MRI and found out basically had no cartilage left in the knee. Surgery seemed overkill and not maybe the best course of action since the way is was fissured.

Did the PRP injection in November. It's not 100% pain free but it's worlds better than it was previously. I can lift pain free (although there is still a little 'hey i'm still here" lingering feeling, but not painful) but haven't really tried running on it.

I'd say my experience is positive looking back, it was an improvement.
