Found during her mammogram. During her lump-ectomy they found another lump / mass. Biopsy confirmed cancer and lymph nodes also were shown to have cancer.

Having a second surgery tomorrow to remove the second lump and further evaluate.

Will start a 5 month radiation / chemo protocol with port. Said she would have the strongest chemo and woukd definitely be affected by the side effects.

Aged 60. Healthy. Normal weight. Strong Christian. Positive person.

What can anybody on here tell me?? Don't pull punches.

The 10 year recurrence rates from surgery alone is decent, better with radiation, and better still with chemo. If the oncologist says this three legged treatment will prevent the 10 year recurrence in 85% of people, most of us would sign up for it.

Now making up numbers, let's say surgery yields 60%, radiation 20%, and chemo an additional 5%. Do you still sign up for all 3?

Depending on the age of your kids and a dozen other personal factors, maybe you choose something less than the triple treatment option.

Breast cancer is a broad categorization. It should be viewed as a heterogeneous set of disease so its hard to make any evaluation without knowing more. Happy to give input if further information can be gleaned.

1. What are the features of her cancer? Specifically status of estrogen receptor (ER), progesterone receptor (PR), HER2 receptor, and proliferative index (Ki-67 index)?

2. What grade is the cancer (grade 1-3)?

3. Has any imaging (PET scan, CT scans, etc) been done to rule out distant disease (metastases)?

4. Any family history of significance (specifically breast, ovarian, pancreatic, prostate)?

The fact that it is in the nodes suggest almost certain need for chemotherapy of some sort in the adjuvant (post-operative) setting.

I would have her check out this guy. He beat cancer homeopathically with diet and lifestyle changes and he's a Christian and just a really inspirational person to listen to.
