Due to various things in my life, I had let my physical wellbeing slip. I started running again in April, and I did a 5k on Saturday. Felt great even if I was slow.

Congrats!

I was in the same boat as you when started running. In less than a year I went from not being able to run a block to a sub 25 min 5K PR!

Keep at it!

Here's how I define success when I used to run races: 1) Finish 2) Have fun. Sounds like you did great!

People asked me my goal, and I said 5k. I did it and had a blast.

I am going to need a downhill race to get there, but I started at the same place as you. I have another one this weekend.

Congrats on achieving your goal and enjoying it!

I got into running during Covid and the 5K was basically a gateway drug for me. Really enjoy both the training/racing as well as the camaraderie.
Consistency: It's only a virtue if you're not a screw-up.

Yep, the running community has been great. Group runs (if you like that idea) make it seem less like work, and the miles seem go by faster.
Achieving things you never thought possible is pretty motivating and addicting.
Keep it up!
